OliveTree Posted April 7 (edited) ChexMate! is a minor gameplay modification for Chex Quest and Chex Quest 3, aiming to make the ultimate Chex Quest experience for both vanilla and fanmade mapsets on GZDoom, through subtle enhancements and updates. Features: Updated HUD with arsenal display restored! Original 1996 Intro and Outro cutscenes which play before/after the correct maps (but don’t play at all if the player isn’t playing the vanilla maps) New “Zorch Gloves” pickup to replace the previously missing berserk pack, which override the Bootspoon sprites entirely when in inventory 100%1 mod compatibility! Other Features: A Chex Guy doing the Sonic pose Propulsor missiles deal no splash damage to the player Flemoids cannot be injured by other flemoids Sparkles replace previously missing bulletpuffs (taken from The Ultimate Chex Quest) A script replaces non-damaging slime floors with a new, safer looking texture A handful of new/edited sound effects to improve the experience (new Propulsor impact sound to remove the flemoid alert sound that used to be apart of it, slightly softer Phaser fire sounds, melee miss sound for Bootspoon, new sound for ceiling/floor movement to replace the flemoid alert sound that used to be apart of it Full of possibilities Full of what you love! What are you waiting for! Download here! 1 Spoiler Note: Certain features of this mod (like the Zorch Gloves) will not work with mods that use custom playerclasses for the player, although my mod won't break them either AFAIK. Mods which aren't for Chex Quest 1 or 3 (such as Chex Quest 3 Vanilla Edition and The Ultimate Chex Quest) are not officially supported but don't seem to break either -- per that, you can also run this mod with regular Doom and enjoy an equally playable but bewildering experience. Mods which use custom HUDS might look a bit strange with my statusbar graphics. Ask your grocier if ChexMate is right for you! That doesn't apply to the other games through GZDoom, though - this mod is intended for Chex 1 and Chex 3. 1 Quote Share this post Link to post

No, as in, the version you get from the creator's website (which bunches all three together) is like that. 1 Quote Share this post Link to post

I know - that's what I meant by Chex Quest 3. When I was referring to Chex 1, I meant the original IWAD played through GZDoom. 2 Quote Share this post Link to post
Andrea Rovenski Posted April 8 looks cool! Although "Flemoids cannot be injured by other flemoids" is a huge turn-off for me personally. the gloves seem nice, too! 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
Melodic Spaceship Posted April 8 (edited) Looks pretty interesting! I don't see gameplay mods specifically FOR Chex Quest that often, most gameplay mods that support it often just support it secondarily. Anyways, I want to point out that CH3_E1M1 is based on an older version of Chex Quest 3 (1.1 I think). The latest version is 1.4. It seems a lot of people are using an old version of Chex Quest 3 for some reason because the Chucktropolis website was briefly hosting an old version but a lot of people never realized it. Since this old version is surprisingly common though, I suggest you support both it AND the newer 1.4. Edit: Okay, ModDB might be a more likely culprit here, as that STILL IS hosting an older version of CQ3, and only that. So please, don't download CQ3 from ModDB. Get it here instead: http://www.chucktropolis.com/gamers.htm Edited April 9 by Melodic Spaceship Someone screwed up the "Mod Database" entry for CQ3. 1 Quote Share this post Link to post

As I said before though this was a feature in CQ3 and I wanted that parity. Given what the flemoids are doing to damage the player, and what the player is doing to damage the flemoids, it doesn't really make in-universe sense for this feature not to be in place, either (am i supposed to believe that flemoids getting hit with enough slime from fellow flemoids is causing them to be sent back to their home dimension?). Plus, I appreciate the differences that make Chex Quest more than just a TC of Doom. This is a known issue, I've been working on a solution and have one implemented. I started that process the day I posted this thread actually. Trouble is I went on a like four day vacation immediately after and couldn't really work on polishing it up. Expect an update sometime soon though! 2 Quote Share this post Link to post
