Pure Hellspawn Posted April 9 (edited) 20 year old gem this year. Far ahead of it's time. Made by @The Ultimate DooMer - if you see this - this thread is dedicated to you!! Long ago I made a boss (definitely not as good) but still fightable that was heavily inspired by this mod. This map was far ahead of it's time. You can find it here: https://www.doomworld.com/idgames/levels/doom2/Ports/megawads/sonic Edited April 9 by Pure Hellspawn 4 Quote Share this post Link to post
Varis Alpha Posted April 14 i love ssd. i've completed it three times recently. there's just something about the design of it that appeals to me greatly. i'm a huge TUD fan and once played through all of serpent resurrection using every single class and i'd probably do it again at some point. 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
Lizardcommando Posted April 14 It's pretty cool although it feels a bit dated compared to most megawads today. The boss fights were kinda creative, although a bit annoying. 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
Firedust Posted April 14 Fantastic wad. Was one of the first I played during my initial foray into the doom wads and mods. There wasn't quite anything like it back in the day! 1 Quote Share this post Link to post

There wasn't quite anything like it back in the day! Absolutely. I feel that the Golden Souls series is the next evolution persay. There's a lot more now but back then this was a unique gem. I'm honestly surprised this wad hasn't been mentioned more. Heck, I even made a boss that was inspired by this wad. Granted it's nowhere near as good as any of the bosses, but it is playable. Not Jabba Posted April 14 (edited) It was definitely awesome for its time! I haven't played it recently, but it definitely captured the Sonic essence and was fun back in the day. If anyone is looking for more releases that are similar, 007: License to Spell Doom (also by TUD) has a lot of that same old-school ZDoom charm. Plus there's Sonic Robo Blast, but I haven't played that yet. Edited April 14 by Not Jabba 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
Varis Alpha Posted May 13 played through it two more times again. love this wad, even though some of the late game bosses drives me crazy. 2 Quote Share this post Link to post
Naan Posted June 7 (edited) I'm going to (re)play Super Sonic Doom but I'm wondering what is the preferred source port to play it today. Wiki says it only works with a specific ZDoom build but it doesn't as I have a script error when launching it. But the readme in the archive says it has been updated to work with GZDoom 3.x and higher, tried the first level with 4.11.x without any issues but I could encounter some later on? Should I downgrade or use something else? Is the wiki outdated ? Thanks! Edited June 7 by Naan 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
