I would like to single out his most outstanding work - 2022 A Doom Odyssey. For me, it's the best wad I've played so far for Ultimate Doom.Somniac - a great mapper too, who knows how to build the right atmosphere and mood in his levels.Alexander S. You can take a look at the recent projects that have come out of our pen:Russian Random Speedmap Pack #1Russian Random Speedmap Pack #2Gift for DRON12261ENDOOM Mapping Contest 202430 Years With Doom We have quite a large number of mappers, both old and newer, who have just recently joined the community, and I recommend you to read their works in detail, because many of them have not shone much light in the whole Doom community, but are able to show amazing things sometimes. These are Slavius (aka Shiroi Akuma), RastaManGames, Track Federal, Volter/Voltage, Doom Wads (aka dragzxnd), Nikolanchik, George Nash, Man With A Gun, StormCather.77, GranitMaster, Petyan, dashiefrickintyan, StorkGreen, CblBOPOTKA, InfernalSky, Chainie, Serious_MOod, Kisadillah, Demonologist, Shadowman, Lainos and a huge number of other talented people, the creativity of each of which can be considered separately. I also plan to start Russian Random Speedmapping Sessions #3 in our community soon, where I want to attract more of our mappers. This is also a fantastic response, thank you! Russian Doom is a source port, right? I'd love to get involved with some collaborative stuff here on Doomworld, so I'll check that out, and I'll keep my eyes out for your speedmapping sessions. 1 hour ago, june gloom said: That's because it's mispelled, it's Tom Kachel. In terms of source-ports, originally there was Russian Doom, which is now called International Doom (and also International Heretic, International Hexen, etc.). But today we have another other Russian Doom(a fork of the old International Doom), which is currently under active development, you can check it out here and contact the authors there (DeepL translator will help you). Unfortunately I can't tell you about it as I don't know much about it myself, but you can always try it yourself and contact the developers. 1 Quote Share this post Link to post

CrocMagnum Posted April 18 (edited) @PRIMEVAL: I discovered John S. Weekley with his work on Ashes 2063. The main theme is unmistakably reminscent of John Carpenter early compositions. A composer with great talent. Ex: 2063 from Ashes 2063 @stewboy: Stuart Rynn was already mentioned but I feel compelled to insist. His music is out of the ordinary, more often than not it keeps on lingering on the back of my mind for who knows long. Ex: Gold Rush from Ancient Aliens: this track is so energetic! When I discovered the wad I kept the track on repeat on my music player. @pagb (his channel): I mention Pedro Gómez for his quality longplays. And I’m not talking about doom wads only, he has streamed litterally a ton of longplays for worthy old shooters: Blood, Duke Nukem 3D, Disruptor (PlayStation 1, etc). If you’re stuck in a game or a doom wad then PAGB666 might save your beacon one day. @Suitepee (his channel): John Suitepee is a tireless streamer who makes longplays on Twitch then post them later on Youtube for the sake of preservation. Suitepee has a quality I regard very highly: He takes it slow. Not only will he play slowly but he will put the wad into perspective first; another thing I love about him. If you’re inexperienced with Doom, if you die a lot or are clueless then watch his streams. You might learn a lot. Like how to position yourself when facing enemies, how to use your shotguns efficiently or how not to die repeatedly while using the rocket launcher. You know, noob stuff that most of us experienced on their first time. When I watch his streams, I clearly see a doomer with decades of expertise under his belt, sharing his passion with the community. Underrated streamer? I feel so. There are also many others you should watch which have been mentioned in here except for Doomkid really. Honestly most of the content for DOOM is some pretty great stuff and there’s Midnight but eh. For gameplay wise uh how do I say this oh yeah to defeat the Cyberdemon shoot at is until it dies. tbh I kind of like Midnight, but I think a big part of that was that I only learned about him from decino's April Fools parody of him, and then went into his content fully expecting constant, hyperbolic nonsense I'm just really amused by the idea of some innocent kid nervously uploading their first map and finding that Midnight made a video about it, titled something to the effect of "Inside DOOM's Most DEPRAVED Map" 1 Quote Share this post Link to post

I recently played through his complete Titan series, in a custom Master Levels WAD I made. And I have to say, despite all the frustration I went through, despite all the 30 minute minimum completion time, in the end, I loved his abstract style, I loved surviving his way of puzzling the players, it was a very transformative experience in a way. Solid 8/10, I recommend it to everyone. 3 Quote Share this post Link to post

Suitepee Posted April 20 (edited) Thanks for the mention @CrocMagnum. I'll list a few people that I guess regular Doomers should eventually check out at some point: -@Bridgeburner56: The leader of Hellforge Studios, who are pretty much responsible for a good chunk of GZDoom-based indie games both past and present. Is also a devious slaughter mapper in his own right. (https://www.twitch.tv/bridgeburner56) -@Dime: Kingdime was and still is a popular Doom speedrunner, and for me was a big inspiration for watching Doom content back in the 2010's. Has done Doom-related speedruns at AGDQ/SGDQ a couple of times also. (https://www.twitch.tv/kingdime) -@Austinado: He created the extremely useful 'playtesting' thread (https://www.doomworld.com/forum/topic/118850-who-can-test-your-maps-list-of-active-playtesters/) and is also a good Doom streamer in his own right. (https://www.twitch.tv/austinado_) -@Daerik: The man, the myth, the first ever person to D2All UV-Max Sunlust. (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wcXHg-Wu36A) A very chill and capable speedrunner that is also known as "Mr Sunlust". (https://www.twitch.tv/daerik) -@Jimmy: The chances are if you've played a Doom mapset recently, you'll have heard at least one "Jimmy midi" in the collection. Masterful music composer and Doom mapper alike. Adventures of Square is really good too. (https://www.jamespaddockmusic.com/) -@Vile: A long long long time Doom speedrunner, but also does a lot of Doom streaming these days. (https://www.twitch.tv/stxvile) -@Pinchy: I consider Pinchy to be one of the best Doom mappers ever. The Alfonzone (https://doomwiki.org/wiki/The_Alfonzone) I consider to be one of the best GZDoom megawads ever made, and is definitely Pinchy's magnum opus. He has a prolific mapping rate and a desire to learn new game engines, and is currently doing a lot of work with Quake (among other things). A future New Blood/3DRealms mapper if I ever knew one. (https://www.twitch.tv/pinchyskree) -@mouldy: Created Going Down, which I consider to be one of the best Doom megawads ever. (https://doomwiki.org/wiki/Going_Down) Also does music, and animations, and other Doom maps (Overboard recently, and also quite a few maps for community projects in the early 2010's), and well....his more well-known identity is not exactly a secret these days, but I'll let any newcomers discover it on their own. ;) Edited April 20 by Suitepee 4 Quote Share this post Link to post

GrayFace Posted April 24 (edited) Sergeant Mark IV best known for Brutal Doom, but also a talented mapper, his Extermination Day megawad is really awesome. (upd: now I've also played VietDoom and it's not great - gets interesting over time, but you'd die a lot to things you can't see and save-load abuse is a must) Vostyok because Ashes series is incredible. Darch, because Pirate Doom is amazing. (Preacher also won Cacowards, but I haven't played it) YouTubers Karl Jobst, the only one I'm aware of who makes speedrun history videos on Doom. xScavengerWolfx Posted April 24 Oh boy, if i had to choose who i would like to met and or do mapping with, i have to say Snaxolot (snax). Her doom 1 wad Stickney Installation gave me the inspiration (most of it by the way) to start mapping in Doom 1 and challenge myself to work with limitation of enemies, health, armour and weapons. I would also like to get to met Doomkid, Mt. Pain 27, Decino (gotta give love to pumpkin man) and a few others i've seen around here. I would also like to get to know some people from the community mega wad i was apart of as well (The mega wad is called Theme GAWAD by the way) like Magicsofa, Violate Beetle, DFF and Osifil. And finally i would like to get to know some Doom Tubers as well, way way WAY too many to count here but maybe one day it will happen. 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
