Logamuffin Posted April 19 (edited) Or just ones that you really really like having. A couple for me: - A (good) fullscreen hud. I don't like the statusbar because it makes me feel like 20% of my screen is being obstructed for no reason. One of my main complaints with DSDA-Doom is that the fullscreen hud is terrible.. - Higher resolution/widescreen support. I've tried playing at 320x240 and I just can't do it. I live in 2024 and I need widescreen. - Either rewind or quicksave/quickload (both are good, allows me to savescum harder :P) - Statistics/level table. Don't know why, I just like my dumb stats to appear on my Doom Launcher page... - Colored blood. Edited April 19 by Logamuffin 2 Quote Share this post Link to post
TheHambourgeois Posted April 19 Raven IWADs only, but vertical mouselook. Crispy adding vertical mouselook to heretic and hexen was a godsend to me 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
Plerb Posted April 19 (edited) A high-res automap that highlights keydoors. I like the low-res 320x200 look, but I need the automap to be legible. It'd be nice if there was a port that supported low-res gameplay but a high-res automap. Edit: Also number coloring in the HUD to show if you have green or blue armor. ALilGrayBoi Posted April 19 Console commands because I skip levels sometimes, keybind settings and auto run, and I don’t NEED it but free look is cool 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
kaleb. Posted April 19 - FOV slider / console command - Multiple resolutions (sometimes i want 4:3/200p/600p and sometimes i want 16:9/1080p) - Ability to take clean screenshots with no hud elements or viewmodel - Lets me use loopmidi + sc55emu for midi 2 Quote Share this post Link to post
Muusi Posted April 19 Controller rumble, something GZDoom still doesn't support and probably never will, while the big badass Eternity Engine and DOOM Retro do it like nobody's business. 1 Quote Share this post Link to post

costadevale Posted April 19 Ever since Woof added mouse support for menus ... Won't say they're unusable, but other sourceports' menus got a bit clunkier for me. 2 Quote Share this post Link to post
yakfak Posted April 19 tbh none, I'm used to doom.exe and chocolate and things like that but if I was a serious demo recorder then I think I'd go mad without DSDA's restart and autonaming for demo lumps features 4 Quote Share this post Link to post

scumgirle Posted April 19 Woof/Crispy's randomly mirrored corpses; they make corpse piles and level backtracking more pleasant while still feeling relatively vanilla (at least to me). Not a deal breaker per se but I also prefer Woof's spectre transparency effect, idk Woof rules. 2 Quote Share this post Link to post
Oxyde Posted April 19 The ability to disable view height bobbing while keeping weapon bobbing. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
prfunky Posted April 19 It's been so long since I ran the DOS executables so I'm not quite sure I remember correctly but changing the key layout for what does what is a big one for me. Obvs, that includes PgUp, PgDn and End keys for looking up, down, center view. I don't mouse in-game unless it's a mousy game like Bejeweled or Lemmings. One console command I recently learned "changemus d_whateva" when I get particularly annoyed with a midi track. As a mapper, not knowing for so long about console command "freeze" until late 2021, now it's indispensable tool! Many console command things are more useful as a mapper than the standard Doom IDxxxx cheats, like "summon monster" where monster is whatever DECORATE-generated beast I'm currently creating/tweaking. Playtesting is less of a chore with these handy tools. I mean, it's still a necessary chore but I guess I'm now more expedient with it. Speaking of DECORATE, yah, gotta have it now. That pretty much means most everything I make is limited to Zdoom-based ports. And it's not that I don't appreciate the work done in other ports but rather I just stick with what I'm good at now. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post

JustHeziel Posted April 19 Since everyone else above me listed most things I would think, I'll go with this ... Uncapped FPS, and Vertical Sync. I'm grateful for these two because they keep my GPU from wasting power in frames I can't see :) 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
Gothic Posted April 19 Being able to disable certain F keys, like "end game" or "quit game". 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
Lippeth Posted April 19 About the only feature from source ports that I miss when playing the DOS executables is having next/previous weapon binds, though it doesn't take long before I get used to num keys. Other than that, it's all good as long as the pixel scaling is mostly correct and I can disable frame interpolation. I used to think I was having mouse issues with certain ports but it's just that I could never vibe with a smoother framerate. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
Apex Veiko Posted April 20 Blood splatters being properly colored for cacos and barons, the status bar showing that you have berserk active, and disabling the melee weapons pulling you into an enemy when you're using them. The latter two are in Nugget Doom, which is why it's my go-to for anything not needing gzdoom. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post

Kinetic Posted April 20 instant restart in dsda-doom for sure, it makes demoing and speedrunning way less tedious and more convenient, especially for runs that are very short or require great luck/execution right at the start 7 Quote Share this post Link to post
