Thermal Power Station [WIP]

Hi Doomworld.

 

This map is the result of a couple of weeks building here and there. I've taken everything I've learned from my first map and made something way more ambitious. I'd love to hear your feedback, so play away!

 

Things I'm not so sure about:

 

The flow of the map

I think I nailed it, but I've seen some minor confusion in blind playtesting.

 

Balancing (enemies and ammo)
I have a feeling the map is too easy, but then again, I've played it a million times already.

  • Format: UDMF
  • IWAD: DOOM 2
  • MAPS: 1
  • PORT: ZDOOM (should run with any settings)

 

  • Jumping allowed
  • Freelook allowed (and encouraged)
  • Crouching disabled

Good stuff!

 

Good use of textures, lighting and architecture to create a cool environment to explore and fight in.

Monster encounters on UV were balanced and never felt unfair. Clever use of Archviles too, to hide them behind Barons.

The backpack in the big furnace room was not tagged as a secret, I feel it should have been.

 

I also found a torch by the red switch that was a tad misaligned. But that's very minor.

 

All in all a good action-packed map.

It's just an item to show the player that he can get up there, the real secret is something else...

This was awesome. I've only found 2 secrets... I'll come back to this for the other three.

I found the automap on my own, and from there I was able to find the BFG. I see one more area on the automap but haven't figured out how to get in. That leaves two more secrets baffling me. Also there's enemies remaining... I'll be back to this one!

I think you attached demo files? I doesn't seem like I can open them with my GZDoom version but maybe I'm also too dumb. Any pointers?

 

EDIT: I think you have a different GZDoom version than I do... I can open the file it just doesn't play.

My bad. I used gzdoom 4.11.3. The files are 7zipped.

Got it running! I had the same version, but GZDoom didn't like where I put the demo files for some reason. After I put them in the engine directory, it worked. Thanks!
