Anyone remember Minesweeper?

Im from baxck in the day when Minesweeper actually came on your windows 95/98 / played a lot of it in school n stuff, especially typing class lol

 

What started as a joke got me back into it, have a little series here

 

Does anyone these days even know how to play it lol - its a really polarizing game I think

 

So my current thing, as a side gig, is adding one more mine to expert mode each time. I just completed 103 - we will see how far I get lol

Minesweeper is fun, uses just the right amount of brain to be a good little diversion which is why I guess I associate it with being unmotivated at the office

I remember it, I had a really old computer, windows 98 and windows 2000.  I didn’t think you can beat minesweeper.  I’m shure there is people doing just that on YouTube.

Yep, I've played thousands of games at this point and have yet to find an 8 without custom settings.

 

It's a fun game, pretty addictive. When I played it regularly I was able to break sub-100 seconds on Expert once I think, though nowadays I average times around 150-200. There's also a Doom rendition.

I remember it well. Played it sometimes on what I think was Windows 3.11 and later Windows 95. I sucked at it. And funny you should bring up this thread because I had a pupil of mine today who wanted me to see a game and it was minesweeper. He's 12. And he's insanely good at it! But then again, all he ever does is solve Rubic's cubes in all shapes and sizes, so I guess his brain is wired completely different from mine because I can't solve those either! :D

That game that I feel like came pre-packaged with all computers of the late 90s that was apparently consumed voraciously by homemakers among others? I don't know how you couldn't. Although it's never really been something I've spent much time with.

That's the one I was going to recommend. It's built so that there's never a situation where you have to guess, unlike the one with Windows and most others.

I always liked that your first click could never be a mine. Like it added the mines at the point of your first click or something.

Minesweeper? sure! it is also available as "Hexsweeper" in a really popular MMORPG.  Really fun game either way.

If you want to challenge yourself with Minesweeper-adjacent gameplay give 'Tametsi' a try! It's only 3 bucks on Steam and it really gets you thinking how to solve some really complex setups, and comes with several forms of gimmicks like hex cells and colored tiles!

Whenever I want to space out for about 90 seconds while using the computer, I alternate between SkiFree and JezzBall. They both run perfectly in Wine, but I also use Windows 3.1 a lot. I'm fond of Minesweeper but the unavoidable deaths by guessing put me off.
