BluePineapple72 Posted May 1 (edited) Titlepic by @OverflowingMocha ~~~~~~~~~ Yippie-kay-yay! ~~~~~~~~~ Wad File: Die Rowdy - RC2 (drive) Port: Boom limit removing - Complevel 9 - Tested in GZDoom/PRBoom Resources: Rowdy Rudy by Doomkid, Duke Nukem, Cagetex, and doomxmas.wad. Compiled in wad. IWAD: Doom II Notes: Requires UMAPINFO compatibility! Rowdy Rudy Jones received the call at 6PM on Christmas Eve. The Nakatomi Plaza had been invaded by an unknown group of assailants. Every floor of the building has been occupied. No one has been in or out since then. No demands have been given. No hostages taken. Police have failed to breach into the building. That's why they need you, Rowdy Rudy, the best Mercenary money can buy, to clear out the building and stop this occupation quickly before Christmas morning. Payment has been given in full up front with an expected bonus upon mission completion. You are expected to clear out hostiles floor by floor and rendezvous with a helicopter team waiting on the roof. Lock and load, and yippie-kay-yay motherfucker! Die Rowdy is a 44 map megawad created as the thirty-third edition of the Pineapple Under the Sea Speedmapping series in December of 2023. Loosely Christmas themed and highly Die Hard themed, each map was made with a skyscraper prefab and an elevator, courtesy of @ViolentBeetle's Hellavator, of which players will be required to find a red keycard in order to advance to the next floor. With a custom resource pack containing weapons and enemies curated by @Doomkid for the action packed Rowdy Rudy 2: Powertrip mashed together with festive Christmas sprites from doomxmas, this skyscraper splatterfest will be sure to have wadphiles debating for years whether or not this map pack is genuinely a Christmas wad or not. Known Bugs: I know it may seem it, but map12 is supposed to exit to map14. It's a feature! The barrel explosion is still broken. Lest they get shot in the fucking head by Rudy Claus! MAP03 - Office Drama - @horselessheadsman Word round the office is that an audit is coming. HorselessHeadsman naturally does it by the book with a cubical assortment of crazy cool combat to spend your 9-5 in. MAP04 - In Case of Fire Use Shotgun - @Egregor Feel a burning feeling? That’s not fire! It’s Egregor’s PUSS33 submission! Dodge around flaming office corridors and vent pathways to learn how to be cool about fire safety! MAP05 - Breaking Hard - @PistoolkipYeah bitch! Become the one who knocks in Pistoolkip’s Breaking Hard! Find yourself an assortment of ‘chemically enhanced’ murder psychos to go Full Measure on! Don’t call me a skank!!! MAP06 - Speeddemon Seasonal Storage - @Death Bear PUSS pioneer Death Bear teaches you the secret art of catching a peek at your gift early by taking you to the Speeddemon’s very own storage facility! Don’t ask them about ROTS! MAP07 - Icy Manipulator - @PinkFlamingo In architecture school I remember them teaching us about the fundamental art of making icy hellscape floors for our skyscraper projects. I didn’t go to architecture school, but Pink Flamingo’s first ever PUSS submission shows us that even inside wonders of steel you can get yourself a little winter wonderland! MAP08 - Operation Sewer Count - @MoiraHeart MoiraHeart really helped this project out by giving the Nakatomi Plaza a logical and necessary location for every other floor to flush their poop! Try not to trot through the brown snow. MAP09 - Kaiju Exterminators: You're one of them - @Yagacaw Naturally in a world of big buildings and big monsters, there’d have to be at least one big building sized big monster. Yagacaw shows us the pros and cons of being ‘really really fucking tall’ and how to shoot ‘really really fucking tall’ things in their really really high up heads way all the way up there! MAP10 - Hit the Showers - @Blexor “You smell like ass!” yells Blexor from across the table. You feel a stinging feeling deep inside as you realize that you have fulfilled fundamental nerd stereotype #12 and have forgotten to shower before the Heist Convention. MAP11 - A Rowdy Heist - @SergeantAnger Speaking of heist conventions? Do you like stealing things? I know I sure do! Thankfully for you Sergeant Anger has drafted up a quaint little tutorial on how to break into a building’s 11th floor and rob them of everything they’re worth! MAP12 - A Regular, Normal Christmas - @Grizzly Old B Another PUSS newcomer, Grizzly Old B gently reminds us that it’s perfectly okay to have a regular, normal Christmas. In doom speak that means at least one archvile and many more revenants! MAP14 - Nakatomi Art Gallery - @PinkFlamingo Some hooty tooty artist type was “behind it all” when they built this place. By ‘beind it’ I mean the number system, because that jabroni forgot the number 13! But that’s a good thing ‘cause that is an unlucky number! You wouldn’t want to trip under a ladder and accidentally kick a black cat onto one of Pink Flamingo’s several paintings here at Nakatomi’s very own art gallery! MAP15 - Hot Head - @myolden Death grip your gun and ease back up into Myolden’s vision of corporate hell! Act natural! MAP16 - Call Center Hell - @senpaigru I remember back when I worked in a call center we had this one regular who kept calling and telling me about how my Netflix subscription had been compromised and that I needed to act now (!) and send him my credit card information in order to fix the whole deal. Senpaigru balances the fickle nature of calling people for a living and the abstract nature of money as a system of value with their rendition of one of the worst jobs imaginable! MAP17 - Green Goo Inc. - @Pistoolkip I’ve been collecting a whole bunch of fire alarms and wrist watches with the hopes that I can harvest enough green goo to become The Master and take over the world with an army of greenskins! Unfortunately Pistoolkip beat me to the bunch and founded Green Goo Inc. A company solely dedicated to that slime oozing out from your TV set and other such slime accessories. MAP18 - Unsatisfactory Performance Review - @SirPootis Look, it’s not that I wasn’t doing a lot, there just wasn’t a lot for me to do! Being a shitty employee is a matter of perspective. I’m sure SirPootis is on the same page as me in that getting paid is better than not getting paid. Damn shame you gotta kiss ass to not get an unsatisfactory performance review! MAP19 - Now I have a Chaingun... - @Razza I’m glad we live in an America where we idolize a man who threatens his (alive) enemies with threats of death written in the blood of his (dead) enemies! Razza tosses aside the age old question of ‘why didn’t John McClain just talk to the terrorist’ in favor of giving Mr. Man a bigger gun! Me Likey :D ! MAP20 - Sleep Study Lab Z - @Yagacaw Ever hear about the face that everyone sees in their dreams! That’s Yagacaw, actually! And he brought with him a boat load of bullets and some nightmare fuel to last us a trip to the west coast baby! Honk-shoo! Honk-shoo! MAP21 - Elevator Floor - @Scionox Life has its ups and downs it seems. Commemorating this (and doom’s incapability of doing otherwise) is Scionox with his tribute to the Z Axis and elevators around the world for picking us up when we’ve never been lower. MAP22 - Demon Executive Bathhouse - @LVENdead Damn! You stink! Thankfully for your this Plaza has two bathrooms! LVENdead gives you a premium tour of where your boss cleans his pits! Don’t forget to dodge the soap! MAP23 - Surprise! - @DynamiteKaitorn / Heich Popping out from under the table and pulling the chair out from under you before you get a chance to sit down is Heich with a fantastic tribute to jumpscares, trapdoors, and closets. And no, this one does not have clothes. MAP24 - Ho-Ho-Holy-Shit - TheBMFG Did I mention that this was a Christmas project? If I forgot, TheBMFG sure didn’t! Welcome to floor 24 where you’ll find a few festive frolickers ready to fhoot you in the face with their funs! And they're all out of fum… MAP25 - Ancient Storage Room - @NiGHTS108 NiGHTS108 and I were talking. And we came to the simple conclusion that things were better back then. Hate to say it really! Oh, by back then we mean WAY back then! Back when they built the Nakatomi Plaza before the Americas were colonized. Not having been renovated since then really gives this floor a retro sort of feeling. 1560s retro, but y’know what I mean. MAP26 - The Floor We Do Not Talk About - @NeilForshaw [REDACTED] MAP27 - Casino Royale - @Tiramisu Go ALL IN at Tiramisu’s casino floor! Having the sense to not bankrupt a casino, Tiramisu has packed this floor full of fun little things to gamble your life away with! It’ll take more brainpower than a slot machine, but at least it’s free! MAP28 - MURDER! DEATH! KILL! - @BluePineapple72 I had a beautiful dream the other night where people stopped having physical intercorse and did away with saying the fuck word. Unfortunately for me I’ll never be well because I live in a world with Italian macho men who’ll squeeze me with their big Italian macho biceps. Unfortunately for them I’ve invented ‘freezing them to death’ with my ‘get frozen to death you fuck!’ prison of which I’ll then use to power my Taco Bell slushie factory! Arnold was cooler anyway! MAP29 - Bad Floor Planning - @Kuro_mahoh Kuro_Mahoh gives us a lesson in irony in that, no, this floor was not badly planned. An all out romp of gunning and running, find yourself laying down the hurt on a hoard of overly critical demons who’s floor design opinions are trite and whack. To be honest though, there could’ve been a better choice of carpet. And upholstery. And well, light fixtures while we’re at it… MAP30 - The Office - @Pistoolkip Reminding us of the joys of office life and working 9-5 is Pistoolkip again, who [The Office reference] this map and [The Office reference] while also spilling beans all over the floor! ***[REMOVE BEFORE POSTING!!!]*** *BP72 notes - add TV show refs once done watching series MAP31 - Christmas Smells Like Gunpowder - @JJBoren Indeed it does, JJBoren! It doesn’t smell like health though does it? No sirree! The medkit factory blew up while you were at map30, so I’d be careful as you dodge and weave projectile attacks this christmas, for it could be your last! MAP32 - The Corner Offices by the Atrium - @Yagacaw Yagacaw rounds out his trilogy of maps with an abstract showing of how sharp minded and corner cutting executives can rule the world! MAP33 - Executive Disfunction - @Weird Sandwich The higher up the totem pole you go the more arguments there are to be had. WeirdSandwich is no function to the dysfunction that can occur in such a company, but what you may be a stranger to is the extra special PUSS variety: the DISfucntion! Get your cold boots on cause it’s time to get chilling! MAP34 - Bridge Beyond - @Scionox It’s a damn shame you didn’t bring your car! A drive off into the horizon seems like a very good idea. Especially since you could flatten any of the 700 monsters Scionox is about to unkindly hurl your way. Step beyond your comfort zone and walk the challenging bridge into a better world! MAP35 - Living-Impaired Areas - @muumi Back from Finland with a vengeance is none other than Muumi with a reticulated and restrained city map high in the heart of the Nakatomi Plaza! Though many under-dwellers may live in this quaint sky village that doesn’t mean you have to be a stranger! Get to know the locals or die trying! MAP36 - Human Resources - @Pistoolkip Here at PUSS industries we care deeply about whether or not you’re going to be speaking bad about our business. That’s why we’ve hired Pistoolkip to install the infrastructure necessary to silence employees who could get the company tied up in court for years! We use the patented ‘cyberdemon shoots you with a rocket’ method of dealing with internal HR affairs. MAP37 - Caustic Clash - @Blexor Every building should come with their own nuclear reactor. How else are they gonna power themselves if the power grid goes down. Hey, by the way, does the air feel funny to y’all or is it just me? Hopefully Blexor has an answer to why all of my skin is now limply lounging on top of my bony feet with his chemically crazy catastrophe on the 5th highest floor of the Nakatomi Plaza! MAP38 - An Unexcpected Breeze - @NiGHTS108 Many of you PUSS enjoyers should have come to expect that we'd released a wad with at least one unfinished level. Believe it or not, NiGHTS108 intended it this way! Don’t let the exposed building supports scare you, they can’t be shot down by conventional weaponry! Not if you only shoot them once that is. MAP39 - XXXmas Came Early!- @MoiraHeart MoiraHeart got back into the mapping fold with some buns hon! Everyone ought to take a night off at the club every once in a while. Ain’t nothing quite like a hot dance. Especially when they set you on fire! MAP40 - Pounding Heartbeat - @NiGHTS108 You feel that? Yup! That’s vertigo! I’d reckon we’ve hit the stratosphere by now! Haha, don’t be silly, skyscrapers can’t go that high. More realistically, NiGHTS108 shows a demonic infestation that has nested itself neatly in the penultimate actual map of this building from hell (LA). Better gulp down an ibuprofen and get your hell cleaning gear ready cause it’s about to go down. MAP41 - Nowhere to Hide - @Scionox Scionox knows when you’re sleeping. Scionox knows when you’re awake. And you best bet he knows if you’ve been bad or good so for goodness sake watch out cause you can bet that Scionox is watching. Y’know every know and then you find yourself in a situation where the only way out is through? Yup! This is one of those. I bet you thought you were getting something nice for Christmas this year. Nope! Fuck you! Die! MAP41 - Rowdy Around the Christmas Tree (credits) - BluePineapple72 Special thanks to the PUSS event staff for helping wrap this up, to all of the playtesters who played this a whole lot, and to Santa Claus for putting me on the Nice List last year. Pistoolkip Posted May 1 In true Christmas spirit, this gets released in May. But Die Hard was released in July, and A Wonderful Life was released in June, so Christmas can be any time of year if you Christmas hard enough. I'm glad I made four maps for this. It was a blast! 7 Quote Share this post Link to post

Apart from the overall theme/gimmick there not much continuity between the individual maps. No problem to do them one by one. (And please – don't quit your job.) S3M_XM Posted May 4 I've found a couple of issues from maps 1 to 31 on Doom Retro 5.4, I unfortunately won't finish the remaining ones until I return back for perhaps a couple of weeks. Spoiler STARTUP is a PNG. MAP12 The Imps on Sector 121 are stuck. MAP13 Sector 221 is a damaging sector and can be stand on by the soulsphere. MAP20 Not sure if it's supposed to be a misaligned texture. MAP23 Could it have at least a green armor at the beginning? Because of the amount of shotgunners from the ambush that you don't have a lot of health after the santas. MAP26 Linedef 76 has a SKY1 texture. MAP30 The MIDI is very quiet. 2 Quote Share this post Link to post

Demonologist Posted May 5 Greetings, turned out to be a fairly engaging compilation overall, however there's a question: did anyone actually playtest @Scionox's maps (all three of them)? I'm sorry, but they're ridiculously over the top, to the point where it makes me think even the author didn't actually bother. Or is it a common practice with these megawads?.. 1 Quote Share this post Link to post

I managed to beat all of them on UV. With saves mind you, but still cleared. Elevator floor while tricky is still fairly straightforward in beating. Bridge Beyond can be very long but persistent strategies can overtop the hard parts. I will concede that Nowhere to Hide is very very very difficult and doesn’t really have, well, anywhere to hide. Appropriately, given the map name. 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
Tiramisu Posted May 6 (edited) @Scionox Even though I really enjoyed Nowhere to Hide on HNTR when I played it a while ago, I'd be lying if I said I didn't want to see an UV demo, too. Honestly cannot begin to imagine what that would even look like lol XD Edited May 6 by Tiramisu 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
Demonologist Posted May 6 (edited) @BluePineapple72 I appreciate the answer, yet it seems I need to clarify: I'm not saying they're unbeatable, I'm saying they're overdone, and it affects the overall quality in a rather unpleasant way. Generally speaking, there's a very thin line between really tough but still well thought-out encounters on one hand and batshist insane and luck-dependant nonsense (again, generally speaking) on the other, if you'll pardon the expression. And alas, it's all too easy to cross that line. For what it's worth - I did manage to beat m34 saveless at least (demo recording was off, sorry, and I'm not doing that one more time, no thanks), yet it doesn't really change anything I wrote above.
