vanilla_d00m Posted May 5 (edited) I always wanted to try and beat Wolfenstein 3-D but it’s just too scary for me. One of my cousins installed it on my parents old computer when I was in elementary school. All I remember was hearing beeps and rings and weird computer sounds. Years later.. turns out the computer couldn’t handle the games audio or something after researching stuff online. So it did that instead. When I saw it on the YouTube video with the games audio and music playing, I got a little scared. It sounds soo old and scary! I want to beat it one day because I played it back then and it came before DOOM. Edited May 5 by vanilla_d00m 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
Plerb Posted May 5 (edited) Wolfenstein 3D scares me too much to beat it simply because of how monotonous it is. There's only like 20 textures, disorienting layouts, and of course 0 height or lighting variation. I don't think I ever got past E1M3 and there's 66 60 levels!!! It's a cool game and I have some nostalgia for it but I'm probably never going to play the entire thing. :P Edited May 7 by Plerb 5 Quote Share this post Link to post

Misty Posted May 5 Only thing what's scary about Wolfenstein 3D is how easy you can get motion sickness or cluster headaches. 3 Quote Share this post Link to post
mrthejoshmon Posted May 5 I hate dating sims, the scariest enemies (women) are the majority and my heart can't take it. Also, Wolf 3D scariest horror game? 5 Quote Share this post Link to post
taufan99 Posted May 5 (edited) Wait until you play Catacomb 3D and the Catacombs Trilogy (Abyss, Apocalypse, and Armageddon). ALilGrayBoi Posted May 6 When I was a little younger I was too scared to play the joy of creation, or any other actually scary fnaf fan game. Now I’m too scared to play ranked in any online game 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
DNSKILL5 Posted May 6 Portal Runner. Vikki looks scary and the gameplay looks scarier. 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
CravenCoyote Posted May 6 I understand the fear from Wolfenstein 3D. As a kid, it terrified me seeing BJ's face getting worse and worse the more damaged he was. The noise of the enemy pistols was loud and sudden, and I always had a difficult time aiming in time to hit them. I finished Episode 1 but that was as far as I had ever gotten. These days it doesn't scare me. It took me the longest time to play through the original Resident Evil. That game scared the pants off me. I made several attempts in 1996 and 1997 but made barely any progress. I finished the Resident Evil 1 remake in 2022. That one still had me on the edge of my seat though, and the fear of losing progress added to my general anxiety of playing that game. I both love and hate being scared. It's some kind of weird thing to me and I find it hard to explain. 1 Quote Share this post Link to post

It's a cool game and I have some nostalgia for it but I'm probably never going to play the entire thing. :P Its actually 60 levels, 123 in total when you add Spear of Destiny and its mission packs to the total. The GZDoom 'port' makes it so much more stomachable with automaps, optional textured ceilings and floors, etc, so ive been able to crack away at it all over again. Only other time I managed the full 60 levels of base Wolf3D was the Xbox 360 port, as I wanted to get all 200 gamerscore to match Doom, as a sort of id games love thing. You can flag the game as 'beaten' just for doing episodes 1 to 3 though, episodes 4 to 6 are basically the equivalent of Thy Flesh Consumed, extra shit added later. As for actual scary games, I find it hard to play psychological horror-themed modern things, as my adult brain understands all the fucked up psychological shit that Silent Hill and its ilk had; as a kid, I finished Silent Hill 1 to 3, and found 2 the 'least scary' as it only had two nightmare locations, all I could really process back then was the in your face horror like gore and terrible monsters. I also had difficulty playing myhouse.wad because my nerves would burn out from the constant dread, doubly so the time I explored the dark silent labyrinth. 3 Quote Share this post Link to post

Oh right, I mixed up the level count with Blake Stone which has 66 levels. I only ever played the original DOS version of Wolf3D, maybe I'll give it another shot with a source port sometime. 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
Devalaous Posted May 6 Reposting this, but yeah, the game becomes infinitely more playable with GZDoom's movement and things like an automap 4 Quote Share this post Link to post

vanilla_d00m Posted May 7 Wow.. I just looked more closely to the hud. I’m not used to seeing the health and ammo on the right side. I’m shure there is a doom wolfenstein mod somewhere. 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
Captain red pants Posted May 7 (edited) I adore Darkest Dungeon's presentation, but the game stresses me out too much to play it for very long. Anxiety is a *kind* of fear isn't it? Edited May 7 by Captain red pants 1 Quote Share this post Link to post

JeffAri Posted May 9 Probably Death Forest (the game) by Kazz Like I know it's a kinda shitty horror game that is a definitely a product of it's time but it still scares me I think it mainly comes from the fact that THIS THING is chasing you the entire game (and as funny as it sounds stereotypical "creepypasta" faces still scare the shit out of me) and tbh I don't really like any kind of horror game with something actively chasing you the entire game because not only am I not good at games like that I also am just way too scared to play them Like this game scares me so much I don't even want to play, nor will I ever play it 1 Quote Share this post Link to post

Astar Posted May 15 Even now Silent Hill 3 scares me. I mean... I've played through this game three times in the past. But I'm scared to return to it. Especially now at a more "conscious" age 2 Quote Share this post Link to post
