I made this map on a school computer

got bored in computer science class because i'm a gigachad and "finished" the course 64 days early. So I spent about nine of those days making a map. No screenshots, this uses default entryway music because I don't wanna go through the pain of editing that in slade, I'm lazy. Difficulty is roughly equivalent to that of "Demonology" from Going Down.

Very little playtesting occurred, so I apologize if the map's a little unbalanced.

 

Edit: @Napeyear pointed out that I forgot to say what map compatibility this is. It's boom-compatible.

Honestly, if you're just going to post this and come across as "I'm too lazy to give a shit about posting screenshots or playtesting or even changing the default music" then I'm sorry to say that most people looking at this thread will probably be "too lazy" to even give it a download.

Played it about halfway through and made it to the cyberdemon room with the arachnotrons and cacodemons that spawn in from above and got stuck before I took a look in the editor, only to realize the map was meant to be played in Boom format, of which I was on complevel 2 and spent about 10+ minutes trying to figure out where to go which made me feel like I completed wasted my time on this level... Not only were you too lazy to upload screenshots but you also didn't bother telling people what source port to use, or what comp settings should be ran with your WAD, forcing what few interested people who did want to play it, despite this egregious lack of information, to figure this out on their own which is very unintuitive for people who want to check out your work. I don't even really care that you didn't change the default music (as I just used IDMUS cheat) but this kind drives the point home that it was a really lazy upload on your part (all of which can be fixed on your end).

 

I decided to give it another playthrough (I thought it was a cool level up until I got stuck) with the correct settings, and I thought it was fun, but the lack of ammo and powerups half way through was a killer for me (though the megarmor secret was helpful). I didn't think dealing with hordes of cacos and hell nobles with a SSG and chain gun was very fun, and the archviles that respawn all of the monsters back only exacerbates this issue further. I did try to infight but I could only get so far before I just ran back into the beginning area and ran away from everything to make a break for the red keycard. The cyberdemon was kind of clutch though and managed to do the majority of my cleanup work, but I still found myself running around with no ammo which sapped the fun out for me. I did think mowing down hordes of hitscanners in the beginning was satisfying however, but I wish you gave the player a rocket launcher or a BFG to mow through the higher tier monsters because otherwise it's such a slog trying to do it with only hitscan weapons.

Hey, just so you know, it’s fine with me that you didn’t post screenshots. Be as lazy as you want. It seems some people are getting rude towards you and that’s the real silly thing. Cmon people. I thought the doom community was a bit more welcoming than that.
 

That said, screenshots just entice more people to play it. So if that’s your goal then yeah post some screens. And just be sure to let us know the comp level. Then do whatever u want with your life and don’t take life advice from people on this forum. Lol.

Fair enough. Telling a mapper, who made it obvious that this was sorta low-effort on a school computer, to "learn how to interact with people" was 100% harsh and the tone of some others is just immature. Tell it like it is - screenshots help entice people to play, complevel is important, the end. Then play it or dont play it and move on to the next forum post... sheesh

The community is honestly pretty welcoming in my experience. It's just that there's some incredibly simple etiquette that people are asked to understand and try to abide by and OP is pretty flippant about it. Going into a community and expecting people to pay you any serious attention when you broadcast "I don't really give a shit about your basic expectations" isn't all that productive IMO, regardless of how welcoming the community is.

I do think the ammo in the red key room and health belonged more on the outside. Sorry, I didn't feel like door-camping or luring enemies over to the central room some more, but honestly my digestion is messing me up right now anyway.

This post title is missing the actual title of the map, and there is still is no screenshots on the OP (screenshots in the drive link is better, but still come off as a bit half-assed). I don't even care if there's fancy title graphics, but at least have one image on the OP.

 

This lack of effort makes me think you really don't care about your wad or even want anyone to play it.

Yea it's good advice, because making a thread for a shitty wad while acknowledging the low effort is a deliberate spit in the face to everybody else. You might give it a pass to newly registered users, but not from a 3 year old member who should know better. Don't be an enabler of shitty behaviour, encourage higher quality of standards.

If you don't want your posts to lose their images, embed them in the post (and scrape the page with archive.org's Wayback Machine for good measure). They're only deleted when you choose to delete them. By putting your images in an external drive, you make them far more susceptible to link rot, whether that be because you delete them to save space, you lose access to your account, Google decides to change the link format, Google decides to lock down sharing settings, etc. See all the Imgur and Discord CDN links that are now broken due to policy changes out of the hands of the uploaders.

yeah, but at the same time, I've literally never once put in that kind of effort off the jump. My whole thing is not caring much at all.
