Andretti Posted May 6 Or around the 20-30 range if 32 map megawads are very rare. Without episodes please. Similar to DOOM 2. I hate losing my stuff. I haven't played too many megawads so I most likely haven't played what you want to suggest. Just finished Auger Zenith. That was pretty good. I gave Going Down a try and stopped on map 2. Too hard for me. The levels also looked too boring. Thank you for any suggestions. 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
No-Man Baugh Posted May 6 (edited) Despite the former being just a 20 map megawad, and the latter having an episodic format complete with forced death exits: I'm still recommending you to play Rowdy Rudy 2: Powertrip and Valiant. They're too damn good Edited May 6 by No-Man Baugh 5 Quote Share this post Link to post

kalensar Posted May 7 Oh boy! My favorite topic so I can regurgitate my list. =E Most of these are 32 maps. 1. Mars War-- Vanilla Doom compat-- 32 maps. Release date 1998 2. GMP(Good Morning Phobos)-- Boom compat-- last update was in 2020 iirc 3. EDay Vanilla 2019-- GZDoom, ZDoom, Zandronum 4. HellBound-- Boom Compat-- Date 2012 5. FreeDoom Phase 1 and Phase 2-- Dont overlook these. They are very good. 6. Hell In Space-- This one gets overlooked imo, but its a solid megawad. 7. Doom 64 for Doom 2-- 4 Quote Share this post Link to post

So this narrows it down and prevents me from thinking of the Scythes or a large number of megawads, interesting. Most famous megawads have at least one death exit somewhere. Requiem is a classic and not too difficult if that's what you're going for. Also experiences may vary but the Community Chests and NDCPs are a nice blend. 2 Quote Share this post Link to post

TMMMS Posted May 8 the lack of upload on idgames strikes me as odd but i played through map01 real quick and it looks legit thanks for the recommendation 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
kalensar Posted May 8 (edited) Not everything is on IDGames. The 4 biggest hubs for Doom content are ModDB, allfearthesentinel.com, ZDoom Forum and DoomWorld. Theres also lots of material on Itchio and Game Banana as well. Edited May 8 by kalensar 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
Christopher Brown Posted May 8 (edited) I found Going Down's gameplay far too nerve-shredding for my taste but Mouldy's designs are absolutely brilliant, and there are plenty of unforgettable vistas along the way. It isn't a full megawad but I would highly recommend Mouldy's more recent wad Overboard. It's more accessible and light-hearted gameplay-wise and with lovely, tropical-themed visuals. That was one of the first WADs I played through after installing GZDoom and I'd still list it in my top ten. As for the full replacement sets...well, Anomaly Report and Revolution! are technically 33 maps each, but I first encountered them as part of the Unity Port and they along with other add-ons like Harmony, Sigil, and Deathless ignited my wider interest in Doom mods thanks to the creative and inspired level designs. Doom Zero is also featured on the Unity Port and is quite fun if you can get past the new sound effects for some the demons that make them sound like they have a serious smoking problem. Scientist is a decent 20 level set on there as well, with a striking color scheme. Outside of Unity, The Revenant Problem is a particular favorite of mine, if you like your Doom with a side of philosophy. Struggle: Antaresian Legacy is a gorgeous limit-removing set with a very unique take on a hellish realm in the last third, featuring the opposite color scheme from what you'd expect. And even though it's only ~20 levels, Lost Civilization is a fantastic adventure that manages a whole level set of large, gorgeous adventure maps without getting stale or becoming monotonous in its pacing. Regarding older stuff, Memento Mori I and II are uneven but a lot of fun if you're looking for WADS that exhibit the spirit of raw creativity from the community's early days, and the best levels are just as entertaining as any high-quality release today. The Japanese Community Project is a more modern take on the basic idea, and its highlights are some of the most creative Doom levels I've played yet. I hope this is useful. Enjoy! (And, if you still have any interest, at least watch some Going Down playthroughs on YouTube...trust me, there are images in the last third that I will never unsee, in the best way.) I'm surprised it took so long for someone to point this out. OP, I'd recommend a mapset called Heretic (HERETIC.WAD). It's pretty different than DOOM 2, but it's great anyway. Just be warned that the last two episodes are very hard and somewhat shitty, but it's balanced pretty well because you lose all your stuff after every episode. It has around 45 maps. Spoiler If you liked Auger Zenith, why not just check out other DPB sets? 2 Quote Share this post Link to post
Stroopwafel Posted May 8 Read the thread so maybe I missed this being recommended before, so sorry if I'm repeating, but I would recommend Anomaly Report. It was released on the steam port as well. Pretty fun and slightly harder than Doom 2. 2 Quote Share this post Link to post

Lizardcommando Posted May 8 Memento Mori, Memento Mori 2, Requiem, Revolution!, Anomaly Report, Doom Zero, Valiant, Fragport. Also, if the difficulty is too tough for you for these megawads, there's no shame in lowering the difficulty settings. 2 Quote Share this post Link to post
