Zdoom GZDoom Doom Intro

Will there ever be a intro demo playing when you run ultimate doom, doom II, Final etc on ZDoom or GZDoom??

 

Like… in DosBox it shows the demos playing when you first run the games.  I sometimes like to leave it on and listen to the game demos, the original ones that came with the game when you bought it.

GZDoom is not compatible with the vanilla demo format, there are too many changes to the engine for vanilla demos to have any chance of staying in sync. That's why they don't play on the menu. If you put a GZDoom demo in the DEMO1/DEMO2/etc. lumps, those will play back, but there's no guarantee that they will remain in sync across different versions of GZDoom. GZDoom mods typically use a TITLEMAP to have something playing in the background of the main menu, and those can get pretty elaborate if you want them to.

I see.  Well it’s a better experience watching it on DosBox anyway, I use ZDoom the most.

GZDoom can not play vanilla demos because it is focused on advancements not pure vanilla compatibility.

 

But there are alternatives you do not have to watch vanilla demos in DOS-Box.

 

Crispy DOOM, international DOOM, Woof and Eternity Engine are able to play back the Vanilla DOOM demos.

ZDoom will show demos if they are recorded with a compatible version. Of course that's not really feasible for released mods because the demo will break quite quickly as the engine gets new things added.
