How do I add a new level to a wad in UDB?

888Hunter

Question

Before I was easily able to add a new level to a wad I was making by just pressing F2 and that would make a new map, but now I have a major issue, it's now instead changing the current level I'm on. I'd prefer if there's a way to do this without needing to fiddle around with slade, but if not please explain how, because in just completely lost here. If that means anything, I'm using hexen for my levels.

Edit: pressing F2 didn't actually make a new level, it just duplicated the current map onto whatever I named the new map.

Edit 2: Sorry for wasting your time, I figured out myself that I can just make a new wad, and then use "save wad into".

Generally, you are expected to keep separate files for each map and only join them together on completion. You can have a lot of maps in one file, sure, but the version management, backups become harder and even saving the thing might cause slowdown.

UDB is also not really meant for resource management, SLADE3 is what you'll want to move your maps around - you'll need it anyway for textures, music and other custom resources anyway.

Well it still works, plus I like doing "full playthroughs" of the unfinished wad, but thanks for the suggestion! I'm just using doom2 textures, by the way.

Usually I make a map in a separate file and then add it when it's ready. In a mean time, you can add the full wad into resources.

To answer the question about having maps in one WAD file. Edit-> Map Options (F2). This will let you change the map that you're wanting it to be. Then File -> Save Map Into, and select the wad you want to merge.
