CosmicPotato Posted May 24 Hey everyone, I just finished creating my very first DOOM map, and I’m eager to get some feedback from the community. The map is called "Chaos Depot", and I’ve put a lot of effort into it. I know it’s not perfect, but I’d love to hear your thoughts and get some constructive criticism. I’ve been a fan of DOOM for a long time and finally decided to try my hand at making a map. I’d really appreciate it if you could check it out and let me know what you think. Any tips or advice on how to improve would be fantastic. The vanilla compatible and it features a replacement song for D_RUNNIN. Here’s the download link for the map. :) ChaosDepot.zip 5 Quote Share this post Link to post
ShittyMcVippy Posted May 24 It was a pretty short map but it was fun, got stuck trying to find the blue key for a while but otherwise it was a good first map. I would suggest adding some wall decorations such as computers to make the map feel less flat. The song was really good. It was pretty jarring to see the Wolfenstein SS in this setting so I would suggest either not using them in a map or replacing their sprites. Very nice first map and good textures! 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
JT88 Posted May 24 Not bad for starting/practice map plays well just minor complains. Blue key being behind bars that you can just walk through is bad choice in my opinion same for using wolfenstein guys for map they don't really fit. Some texture aligments at elevators needs fixing and before blue door dont just change wall texture mid hallway like that make a doorway or use some board texture at least. Everything else was ok for first ever map. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
LadyMistDragon Posted May 25 (edited) Not too bad although the last slime hallway was empty and devoid of basically anything. Up to this point, scale seemed pretty restrained and progression/combat flow was fine. Edited May 25 by LadyMistDragon 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
RataUnderground Posted May 25 Good first try! I don't see any bugs or anything that doesn't work as it should. The architecture is very basic and contains no detail, and it is difficult to know what those wooden corridors are supposed to represent. You have to try to give it a little more visual interest. Regarding the gameplay, the combats are very simple and easy. If you want to increase the pressure on the player, try attacking him from more than one direction. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
MisterLivers Posted May 26 Well I tried it, fun and awesome gameplay, the level design is good for a first WAD but you need to align your textures dude! Good job for a first WAD! 100% Kills 100% Items 100% Secrets! 1 Quote Share this post Link to post

el macho gaming Posted May 30 (edited) I enjoyed this map it was a nice time killer and the general level design reminded me of Tom Hall and Sandy Peterson levels (not in a bad way I generally like their dungeon crawler feel) and i liked the casual and nice laid back fights also cool set pieces like the revenant sludge tunnel or the nazi room and it had some nice creativity to it icl the things you might wanna improve on are maybe different texture usage, allign your textures, try not to make too many empty areas and maybe extend upon some of the fights also walter white Edited May 30 by el macho gaming 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
Mad Dal 85 Posted May 31 Not bad for a first map. Being honest, it's a bit on the bland side, a lot of it looked the same. Maybe add some computer textures and some other decorations. Secrets were easy to find. Maybe check out some maps that other people have made or take a look in 'What wads are you working on? Let me see your work' thread on this site to get some ideas. But this was fun to play, nice and short but very little going on in it. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
