I actually managed How we saw '95 before on my old account, however I backed down due to stress, however I feel like I am much better handled to handle larger community projects now. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post

Felt like I needed to move onward from my mistakes from my middle school years, considering I made that account when I was in the 6th(?) grade. 1 Quote Share this post Link to post

Major Arlene Posted May 30 gay go Boom? I'm down, it'll be pretty small but I'm keen 2 Quote Share this post Link to post
Xaser Posted May 30 (edited) Oop, looks like I gotta post again to do my usual spiel: Boom's outdated -- check out MBF21, it's a cross-port standard that's supported by all the modern "boomy" ports folks use these days (dsda, gzdoom, eternity, odamex, woof!, etc.), with a bunch of new tools in the kit. Said ports also have access to UMAPINFO, which lets you define however many maps you like, change around the secret map slots, or even arrange 'em into episodes if you wanna. Very handy stuff for community projects like these; shooting for exactly-32-maps is troublesome in a bunch of ways. [EDIT] Eeeey, nice. That was quick. :P Edited May 30 by Xaser 4 Quote Share this post Link to post

Walter confetti Posted May 30 (edited) Sure this thing gained high popularity really fast! Good luck with the project, the premises are interesting! If this project also had neurodivergent awareness aspects over the LGBT ones, it could be cool to make a Autistic Pride map! Otherwise, i can try to do a speedmap with these themes, but in reality i really don't know if i can do It in time. Edited May 30 by Walter confetti 8 Quote Share this post Link to post

But if we are gonna make regular maps, i don't think we would get to more than 10 before the month ends (please subvert my expectations, people, pleeze pleeze pleeze) 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
8088mph Posted May 30 does any of y'all know an easy way to merge two ANIMATED and two SWITCHES lumps into a singular ANIMATED/SWITCHES lump? trying to merge 32in24 and OTEX into the custom resources and I'd prefer not to do in manually. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post

You have to copy and paste from one to the other iirc. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post

I'm trying to do that but I'm getting no results, although I haven't updated SLADE, maybe that's part of that? I'll do that tomorrow, I gotta finish something up then head to bed. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
akolai Posted May 30 ... sure, i've been working on 'something' Spoiler this being organised anywhere other that doomworld? 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
8088mph Posted May 30 Finally compiled the resources and custom palette, now with pride-flag keys! Updates will be made however, such as solid colors, and an actually compiled switches lump, not tonight(?) though! 35 minutes ago, akolai said: this being organised anywhere other that doomworld? No, I am thinking of including a discord server, though. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post

The easiest way is to convert them both to SWANTBLS (right click in SLADE) and then copy text from one to the other, then convert them back. It's fine if there are duplicate entries IIRC though it's cleaner if there aren't. I will help you with this tomorrow if you haven't solved it by then. june gloom Posted May 30 (edited) So I loaded up UDB with Gaytex and am I doing something wrong or did the palette just kinda fuck up all the textures? Certain things just look significantly washed out or outright wrong. Edited May 30 by june gloom 0 Quote Share this post Link to post

Xaser Posted May 30 1 hour ago, roadworx said: can we please not turn this into a 40+ map gigawad? all that does is make it so that each individual map is drowned out by the overly high number of other maps Removing the cap doesn't mean that it'll suddenly result in a flood of entries -- community projects as a whole tend to get much less than 32 complete submissions by the end of it, unless it's something high-profile or the project theme encourages speedy mapmaking (e.g. speedmapping sessions, 100-lines/10-lines, etc.). If interest starts to explode, it's never a bad idea to set a softcap or a "signup deadline" so things don't get too crazy, but that's best handled when it happens, 'cause it's the exception rather than the rule. The "troublesome" bits I was vaguely referring to are more like: If there's a hard-cap to the number of maps, then the project might get "full", causing interested folks to get turned away at the door. Inevitably, many people end up dropping their 'slots', because Life Happens(tm) These two problems combine together in a nasty way: if you shoot for exactly X maps, you will get in less-than-X by the time the intended deadline is hit, which might lead to the project stalling out if the decision is made to try and make more maps to get to exactly X. The only other real way to avoid the above and still hit a desired exact map number is to pull a DTWID and pick the "best X" maps, leaving some on the cutting room floor*. But nowadays, there's not really a ton of good reason to do that versus expanding/shrinking the project size to fit, since the feature that lets you do that comfortably now exists. Unless you're sticking to vanilla... but then you could do what BTSX did and embrace multiple wads. :P [*Quality control is good ofc, but if a map is rejected, it should be on its own (lack of) merits, not because it fell on the other side of a number. Unless you are indeed dealing with a "shit I nearly have triple digit numbers of signups" situation. But don't burn that bridge unless you get to it. :P ] [[Also at some point I really need to summarize the above into a PSA thread so I can link it rather than retype this and go off topic :P ]] 2 Quote Share this post Link to post
Phoenyx Posted May 30 I would have loved to contribute a map for this but I've already got too many projects going on and I need to take care of some health issues, but I will be cheering from the sidelines. This is a brilliant idea, can't wait to see what everyone makes! <3 0 Quote Share this post Link to post

Dynamo Posted May 30 Yes, I just got finished cleaning this up, a few posts with relatively on-topic messages ended up getting canned too since they also contained replies related to the mess but it was nothing important. Onward with mapmaking! 8 Quote Share this post Link to post

When you're in the map editor launcher and opening a map: select "Boom + MBF21" in the port field and then open your map. now you should have access to all the special MBF21 features 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
