LadyMistDragon Posted June 10 Mostly vanilla, although I will play with Final Doomer and Supercharge, depending on the particular sets in question. Most of the time, vanilla is completely fine, unless at the points where maps become more tedious than fun. 1 Quote Share this post Link to post

It isn't uncommon for me to take a weeks-long or even months-long break in the middle of playing a wad. I find that doesn't hurt my sense of progression or immersion at all. If anything it strengthens it because the mapset "lives" with me for a longer time. Rushing through a set out of obligation has pretty much always been a bad experience for me. I try to avoid using playlists for myself because I find they encourage that "checking something off a list" mentality that I want to avoid. Yeah, this is something I came to conclusion about recently. Previously I was playing one wad at a time, mostly because I thought that playing several at once would make me conflate them in my memory. However eventually this resulted in massive frustration as I began to quickly burn out even when playing on easy wads that aren't considered too difficult (like Eviternity on HNTR). I'm not a patient player and when I die several times in a row but still want to commit to beating the wad, this just results in a complete ragequit. Now however I play like 5-10 wads simultaneously, some of them 1 level at a time, and I'm having much more fun, despite playing everything on UV again. If I can't beat a map, then I just switch to another wad, and try that map again another day. And my fears of wads conflating in my memory into one turned out to be not true. RHhe82 Posted June 10 I’m with team @baja blast rd. here - I have at least 4-5 wads at active play at a time. I think I usually burn myself with DWMC* when I have to concentrate on a single wad and make time for it. Otherwise I can also have months of hiatus for a single megawad and still maintain sense of consistency and continuity with it. (* I love the megawad club, but harder wads or wads with long maps in it are stressful to me, and after one or two months of those make me want to take a leave of absence. Concentrating on one difficult wad at a time simply doesn’t sit with me well, I have discovered). As for mods, I don’t use them. Never heard of Lithium, but mods with word ”brutal” in them feel very infantile to me, and have zero desire to touch them myself. 2 Quote Share this post Link to post
Aeddes666 Posted June 14 With Lost in Darkness (after nearly 30 years, got bored with vanilla gameplay. And i really like horror/suspense). 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
EPICALLL Posted June 14 Not only do I play normally, but I've literally never touched any gameplay mods, I am as vanilla as one can get. 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
TheGreenZap Posted June 14 I almost always play vanilla. There are times when I just want to play around with different guns from Rowdy Rudy or Supercharge and I'll play wads I've already played but with the mod. 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
