What's the best version of Doom 3 to play for singleplayer?

Back in the day, I remember having sikkmod and various high-res texture packs (one made by wulfen, and another by monoxead), and I also had the Venom high quality menus I think.

 

I was just wondering, what might be considered the best way to play Doom 3 in 2024 that maintains the vanilla experience, but is enhanced in similar ways? Has there been something that has replaced sikkmod or these other things after all these years? Would really appreciate being pointed in the right direction; I just want to do another playthrough but with the most badass graphics possible since I have a good system now.

Thanks; I checked the website and read about it, including the FAQ as well. It looks like it supports widescreen resolutions and 64-bit, among other things (EAX-like sound effects), but, does it inherently have support for things that sikkmod implemented, like soft shadows, bloom, and depth of field, and parallax occlusion mapping, for example? Does it have enhanced textures?

 

I checked the list of supported mods as well and I didn't see anything about sikkmod (or texture mods for that matter)

 

Edit: Looks like sikkmod was updated in 2023 to be compatible with dhewm3; I wonder why it's not listed on dhewm3's compatible mods page? I wonder if compatibility broke at some point when dhewm3 was updated?

 

Also, it seems to me that the wulfen+monoxead textures should work without issue. But do these mods offer the highest fidelity D3 experience or are there others I should consider? Is an RTX Remix version of D3 being worked on?

Everything is fine as long as you don't play the Bad Fucking Garbage Edition, but personally I'd play vanilla with dhewm source port, because it supports modern resolutions.
