Because the article, which was taken down by Activision, was about this singleplayer demonstration. When it was taken down, they said the article would'nt return untill September the 23rd.

Read that too..the only european mainland gaming site (gamer.nl) i thought, a dutch one ,also could hear more about the SP on Quakecon..they also had to wait till sept 23 untill they could talk about it..so sept 23 whe can expect at least some new material ..

if they do release a demo, it should be final versions of what was in the alpha, i dont wanna see something new and then see it AGAIN in when it comes out. Not to say that if something new comes out i wouldnt play it, I just wouldnt resist, but id rather have it kept away from me till D-Day

Why the Hell are they goin' to release a demo???
Lemme get this straight: they don't wanna put out a one-map mp demo, which wouldn't give anything away about the single player mode, instead they decide to put out a freakin' sp demo that'll reveal TWO goddamn maps in the game!

This doesn't make sense, and that's also why I still have a hard time believing that iD are actually putting an sp demo out there.

Unless of course, it'll just be a presentation sort of demo - not a downloadable demo. But even if that's correct, it'll still suck, because they're still giving away stuff that should only be experienced in the final game.

That is and has always been (as long as I was aware of Doom 3 being in development) my own opinion.

It makes TOTAL SENSE. In case you forgot what ID has been saying for 3 years, Doom3 is about the single player experience, not multiplayer. Freakin' duh

There were demos released of most (or all) of their prior games. Whether in shareware disk form or downloadable form. This would appear to be a little early, though. The Q3test ws released May or June I believe, where Q3 was relesed in winter (I got it in December and I think it was only a few weeks after its release, so I won't pretend to know the exact date.) Give or take that is about 6-7 months before hand. 6-7 months from then would be March/april which coincide with the estimated springtime release. Although Q3test served the purpose of having people play as beta-testers, whereas this probably would serve no purpose except for entertainment, and a spoiler in dsm's eyes. Altough, if it was released in a similar time period of HL2's release, it could succeed in stealing some of HL2's glory w/o being ready to release the entire game. That would be a great marketing stradgety in my eyes.

Ok, DSM, You are an ok guy in my opinion, but christ you go overboard sometimes about D3. A two level demo is a spoiler? A TWO LEVEL DEMO....is a spoiler? What about when they released Doom/Quake...a whole episode was shareware! Don't get too carried away man. It'll probably be the Alpha levels on a more polished state, or they want to give us a small teaser of D3's story, but they won't give away much. They may have a crazy marketer named Hollenstead rambling his marketeer stuff, but they aren't stupid.
