speaking of prBoom, it's not really my friend.
My problem is not related to demo recording, but still it's annoying for casual play. prBoom is actually unable to load saved games ! I heard AdamW has this problem too...
If anyone has an idea on how to fix that... help would be much appreciated.

So now I am using Legacy for casual play. Mousing on Legacy is in fact very close to the doom.exe mouse feelings.

This might help. Doom2.exe compatibility and savegames in Eternity. Seems to work very well.

If you use it to record demos, it puts a quick turn either way in the first few game tics, just to mark it as a demo that was not recorded with Doom2.exe presumably.

Uploaded Map17 Max in 13:31.

Slow and ugly demo. First exit after 10 hours. The Cybie in the cage kills me all the time. The rest of the map is not very hard. If you play the Archvile traps again and again, they are no longer a problem. I hate these damn spectres in the lava!

Just watched it, and why don't you fire the BFG from where you stand when you use the shotgun on him? Running in with the BFG seems very risky - is that how you kept getting killed?

Pretty nice arch-vile handling and overall a OK demo. I watched without sound though so I might have missed some stuff :)

Hehe, I tried it to fire the BFG from the 'distance' all the time before, and he got me (the splash damage of his rockets hitting the walls around me is deadly). In this demo it was the first time I tried to rush him, and it was successful :)

eternity runs fine here, but is there a way to affect several commands to a single key ? the control setup within the game does not allow it neither does editing manually the keys...
Why the hell some developpers do not allow it like in prBoom and Legacy ?

i need this kind of tricks to perform strafe50.
For that I usually bind ALT to turn right, strafe right, strafe on and forward. Which makes Strafe50 to the right a formality. That's what I was used to do in Doom(2).exe

I don't know; I'm new to Eternity myself, and have never thought of using such a clever configuration. The Eternity forum is here.

Sadly, "making it easy to use strafe50" is probably quite low down on most port teams' priority lists. ;)

I doubt it would take more than a few extra if() statements to create the same effect as a Strafe50 driver.

When the player presses strafe left or strafe right, check the turn left & turn right values. If those values are zero, use Strafe50.

Making it an option would be more work, but any end user can add a couple lines of code and compile it themselves. Wonder why nobody's done this...

Sounds like a good idea for TAS, but not for those who just want it to play the same as Doom2.exe (which I think is all Vince wants). Might have been nice if Andrey had used that for his 30uv, rather than having strafe50 on even while turning.

Hmm, maybe there are a few too many off-topic posts in this thread. Should I split it, or do people not mind if the subject meanders a bit?

Just uploaded map 01and 02 -fast in 2:30 and 3:07. Not very good, but better than nothing. :)

Uploaded map 17 -fast in 16:58 but be warned, this demo is VERY bad. The caged Cyberdemon makes the beggining very frustrating and killing him isn't funny either. The rest isn't hard if you don't screw up.

well, I tried eternity but I really can't stand the way it handles the mouse. It really has too high mouse acceleration and it seems it cannot be disactivated. I can't play good with that kind mouse stuff so I gave it up.

About prBoom, besides not being able to load savegames, it also refuses to record demos. Whatever I do it says 'demo xxx recorded'
but I did not even play...

prboom has a naughty habit of not overwriting the demo it's recording. You have to delete every failed try if you want to continue with the same filename...

Now *that* is something which could be fixed with a few extra if()s. Or in this case, more likely, by removing a few if()s.

Hell no; that feature is great. Just takes a second to delete the failed try (and then you have a back-up of your fails sitting in the recycle bin), and you never need to worry about overwriting a demo by mistake.

It doesn't sound like that can be what is causing Vince's problem though. If you try to record, e.g., hn11-xxx.lmp when hn11-xxx.lmp already exists, the message you get is "G_RecordDemo: No save in demo, can't continue". Unless he's trying to record a new one before clearing the message from the first attempt, and then seeing the "G_CheckDemoStatus: Demo recorded" message from the first one when the second attempt to record fails. That "demo recorded" dialogue was new in version 2.2.4 and annoys the hell out of me - what's the point? (in version 2.2.3 there was no such message, which always seemed just fine).

Yeah both the sign and the stuff about not overwriting isn't they way doom2.exe works and should be optional in a port like prboom which tries to emulate the original game.

Here ya go...hope you can enjoy some 1% action.... h218 max done in 13:04 ...spent 3 days to get this one exit here. It's not a really hard map, I just kept fucking up a lot ^^'

no, method, I am still in the US. So forget about our cool Compet-N coops... and we had plenty of time to play when I was still in France but most of the times you were not online or either DMing.

And I am not going back to France before dec04 or jan05... unless our lovely president allows the guys with visas to cross the border for vacations and go back to the US.

So far I cannot leave the US territory or they will not let me in again even if my VISA is still valid for a year. The only solution is when I am back to my country is to request a new visa which can take up to 2 months or more. And my current job do not allow me get 2 or 3 month vacations...

So I'll stay here up to dec04 / jan05, unless my contract gets extended, then I might apply for a green card. Green cards are great to go in and out of the US, but it's very expensive (needs a lawyer) so I'll do it only if I get a permanent job here.

Uploaded map28 done in 31:19. Second half of the demo is fairly slow and uncertain, so I definitely want to improve this later.

Only three undone maps now...

i think a shotgunner survived your carnage in this demo ryback.. he's stuck on a ledge near the very end, before you dispatch the last few chaingunners.

Having looked at this again, it seems there's a caco still left alive as you descend down the lift to the final area. :-/

Of course, I could be wrong, but I thought it looked a bit suspicious...
