Ryback Posted February 21, 2004 Thanks Vince. Noted updated comments. Apart from your comments Altima, I'm still waiting on Radek and Method_man. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
Altima Posted February 21, 2004 Hell Revealed II pack Hell Revealed II. The sequal to Yonatan Donner and Haggay Niv's classic megawad, which if you haven't played at some point, you must be living under a rock. Hell Revealed was known for it's massive carnage. Hell Revealed II is no different, having the most monsters-per-square-inch I've ever seen in a megawad. Period. The maps are much more detailed than the original, and they're just as gruesomely hard, if not harder in some maps. The maps are all very nicely done, each one with their own unique style, ranging from the BFG-fragfest map 32, to the more strategic maps 24 and 28, to the mind-provoking 19 (which has to be the best overall map in HR2 because of the multi-floor bridge ;)) Anyway, here we are, and with another 32 demos for your viewing pleasure. I haven't had this much fun with a pack since Scythe and TVR! ...wait, those are the only two other packs I've contributed to =P I think we've waited long enough for HR2's release (almost 7 years seperating their releases), and now here is the demopack to accompany it. To everyone that contributed a demo, it's been an honor and a pleasure to work with you guys on this. Hell Revealed II is unbelievable...but don't take my word for it, start watching the demos already! ;) Map 8 - Ballistics This map was a LOT of fun to play, it's very interesting...fireballs flying in every direction and no real safe zone at all o.o The first half of the map is probably the hardest in my opinion, because you don't get any additional health until you can get the yellow key. I really like the overall design of the map, and the Cybie at the end surprised me the first time I played this map and he killed me. Go figure =P And the monster-per-square-inch ratio on this map is COMPLETELY nuts! ;) But you get a BFG and it's mostly Hell Knights in the last half....so you just clean them out and stay alive with the excess health lying around at this point. This demo is good overall I think, just the Cyberdemon coulda gone a little better ^^' Definately a fun map though ^_^ Map 24 - The Inmost Dens III The hardest map I have ever played and been successful in finishing. 26 minutes for an exit. It feels really slow to me, but the way the map is layed out, as far as monsters and ammo is rationed, it's almost begging for the map to take a long time to finish. Plus you have all the Archie/Chainer action. LOTS of hairy parts in this map. I'm not sure if someone could actually rush this map like a mad man, I don't see it happening from my own experiences. The situations are so unique in this map too. I'm just extremely happy to have made the one exit for this map...I had so many close calls in this demo. Well, see it for yourself ;) Great map, and REALLY interesting...as well as VERY difficult ^_^ Map 30 - Source Control And here it is, the moment you've all been waiting for. The finale of Hell Revealed II. And it's definately not a disappointment ^^ I've never played a map with so much evil written all over it...I mean, jeez, we've got 6 pentagrams! ;) Overall, I liked the concept of this map. This is my hardest-worked demo (not the hardest, just hardest-worked ;)) and it shows. Erik really gave me a run for this one, and I was surprised to beat his demo. I tested the heck out of this map in the beta, but never even knew about the secret until Erik's demos. The ending is the biggest blast-fest you could imagine if you wait for about 8 seconds =) TONS of cells laying about, and many, many spawn cubes flying about, creating monsters to rip into your flesh... This is also my favorite music out of HR2, it sounds like a remix of the music from Doom II map 30 ;) Fire the rockets at Romero and rejoice ^_^ ...and yes, our hero finally dies, taking Romero with him. Do not mourn his death though... just press the space bar. ;) 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
999cop Posted February 21, 2004 Can somebody please post a direct link to all the latest HR2 speedrun demos? 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
Ryback Posted February 21, 2004 Again, see the first post in this thread. There aren't many speedruns though. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
Altima Posted February 21, 2004 Come to think about it, didn't Method and Radek put their comments up in text files attached to demos? Or is there something I'm not aware of? o.O' *slaps self like the baka he is* 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
Ryback Posted February 22, 2004 Radek did but Method didn't - and Radek's comments aren't really demopack comments. Besides I still need some overall pack comments. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post

I had checked that before I posted, and obviously they are only the demos made before the final build released. What I'm exactly looking for are the demos for after-released maps, and also I'm particularly interested to see Vincent's hr2map15's demo 0 Quote Share this post Link to post

All the demos are there. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post

It's as easy as that. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
Grazza Posted February 23, 2004 If for some reason you can't get an FTP client to work, you can always do it the old-fashioned way: open a command prompt (DOS prompt), and enter the following sequence of commands:ftp lmp.netfirms.com username: lmp password: J856S cd www cd lmps cd packs cd hr2 bin mget * quitYou will be prompted to confirm each file (y/n). It's a bit clumsy, but it should definitely work (I've just tested it). It copies the files to whatever your DOS path was in the command prompt prior to logging in. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
VinceDSS Posted February 23, 2004 thanks for the tip grazzer, but I recently downloaded SmartFTP from work (high bandwidth) so now I have access to the demos. Btw, how is going the demopack ? Got every comments and demos ? 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
Ryback Posted February 23, 2004 http://lmp.netfirms.com/hr2/ Let me know if you have trouble downloading. Netfirms doesn't allow hosting of files larger than 256k so I had to put the pack on some other webspace. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
Kristian Ronge Posted February 23, 2004 You left out Vince in the credits list there, Ryback... :-) EDIT: and unfortunately it seems you left him out in the .txt as well..(first paragraph) ;-D But the file downloads and unzips okay. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
Ryback Posted February 23, 2004 oh yeah. fixed. EDIT: and fixed again :P 0 Quote Share this post Link to post

FYI, instead of being on dope, I'm actually on a public computer at which it is extremely difficult to get through to ftp client. Therefore, I'm hoping if there was an actual server for alternative. Btw, thanks for all the tips given. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
VinceDSS Posted February 24, 2004 it seems that I did not notice that richie got only one demo too... you should use /me shakes hand with Donce and Richie. thx :) PS: would be cool if eternity would include a kind of filming like in D2DQ (with recorded cam angles and moves) 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
Volte Posted February 24, 2004 Maybe someone should make a somewhat bare-bones demo-playing port based on Eternity or PRBoom which does have such features as recamming, fast fowarding, and slow-motion, etc. All that would be required is some sort of camera definition file included in with the demo. I set up a P200 yesterday and stuck Win98 on it for older games. First thing I did was watch D2DQ with recam - made me think how cool it would be to have that in other demos. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
VinceDSS Posted February 24, 2004 recammed demos are real nice to watch... but the proggie and the technique used is really prehistoric and harsh. I think it would be possible to make Eternity or prBoom 'recam friendly'. I am not a programmer tho :) I would actually recam a couple demos if it was not that hard... 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
Altima Posted February 24, 2004 Speaking of D2DQ, what are the rules on doing something "done quick"? 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
Andy Olivera Posted February 24, 2004 Well, Eternity's "walkcam" allows you to freely roam the level while the demo is playing, right? That's halfway there already. If you could record those movements and then play them back along with the demo you'd be set. Of course, that's assuming you want to film everything in real time with no cuts. There are two problems with D2DQ's implementation: you can't control the camera's orientation; DooM's in-game coordinate system is/was weird. Regarding latter, the output QDQ's program gave was a bunch of numbers that didn't make any sense. So, you couldn't just open a level editor and get the coords; you actually had to go to the specific spot in-game and output your position. It never made sense to me why they did it that way. In most of the ports the automap displays your coordinates, so maybe the output numbers just need to be translated. If you could use real coords and have a program that would turn those into data the game could use then I think DooM recamming might actually take off. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
VinceDSS Posted February 24, 2004 This would need to add 'flying' to eternity walkcam and a way to record you camera moves to. But I think that can be very sloppy if it's hand made... I wonder if its possible to add some kond of markers which would define the camera caracteristics and/or moves. And all this done while playing the demo back and pausing when you need to create a new cam marker. These caracteristics could include : chasecam, travelling to marker X, static camera, centered on player or not, time when this marker enters in action...) just ideas... 0 Quote Share this post Link to post

Killer demos everyone. This was pretty damn cool!!! 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
Altima Posted February 24, 2004 Map 30's demo in the pack is wrong. The one in the pack is a 1:47, when in the database was Erik's 1:37 and my 1:36....so...yeah... 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
Ryback Posted February 24, 2004 Fixed it. Gee, it's a good thing some people are actually out there paying attentionn ;) 0 Quote Share this post Link to post

AdamW Posted February 24, 2004 nice time method...i'd watch and respond except i'm on holiday in vancouver for six weeks with only my laptop, so, i won't :D. dunno if it's too late for the pack... 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
VinceDSS Posted February 24, 2004 /me gives Method a pair of glasses Deadline is passed already, no new demos... it's too late for the pack now, so Adam's demo is safe :) Your new demo will probably go to SDA, so AdamW can beat it there... to AdamW : doom does not run on ur laptop ? (prboom or vanilla) go and meet deva in Nova Scotia :) or drop by California :) 0 Quote Share this post Link to post

I dunno, for me making a compet-n demo takes much time (if I succeed at all), and I have so little. Thus I'd rather play and record various PWADS. I know there are quite a few undone maps/categories in the PWADS added to compet-n, but I don't want to submit anything that gets beaten twice by whoever sends the next demo, I've never been a big face in this competition :) Maybe I'll get to it and manage to produce a (few) demo(s). 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
