The Doom 3 cacodemon

I decided to give dsm's interpretation of the cacodemon a try with this ink and line drawing provided below. Frankly i doubt i've captured dsm's interpretation at all, despite the fact that i followed the description, and i can't quite put my finger on why. I don't think we'll know until dsm does the pic himself and shows us.

Damn, I really need to do a concept sketch of my idea then - though I'm pretty sure even I can't quite catch what it was I wanted, since my ideas were kinda half-baked.
Thanks for giving it a try - I consider it a compliment y'know, so I'm flattered :-)

Edit: I made a quick drawing of it and put it up, though you could say my ideas evolved while I was drawing - I'll comment on details underneath. As I thought before, I didn't manage to quite capture what I had in mind; the teeth-like growths ended up as an extra row of teeth and the teeth in general didn't end up as malformed as I had wanted them to be.
Here's my interpretation realized through drawing

Details: I made it so that the caco has one large eye in the middle of the mass of eyes (yes, there are several tiny eyes in that eye socket) - originally, I just wanted a large hole functioning as a pupil amidst the mass of jellyeyes. I also made it so that tiny tentacles worm out of the sides of the eyesocket and I added two small "sense apparatuses" on both sides of the eyes (inspired by the D3 Hell Knight's eyes or whatever they are - though those on my drawing are not eyes). These *could* be nostrils, but they could just as well be something normal animals don't have.

I'm not very good at drawing slimy surfaces, so you'll just have to imagine that the tentacles and huge scales are slimy, wet and sticky. In accordance with my original conception, I made it so that tiny tentacles are visible underneath the scales (trying to worm their way out to freedom) - basically, think of this caco as a mess of tiny tentacles/worms mixed into a huge lump of mangled flesh and wormy tentacles and then covered by bony growths and large scales.

Imagine that the tentacles in its mouth are electrified (I'm not good at drawing stuff covered in electricity) and are so extendable that they can lash out at you (like the D3 tentacle commando's "whip arm").

Holy shit that's kick ass. I didn't realize you were an artist dsm. Only one problem with it. It can't fit into doom3; it still have an eye. Take it out or add eleven and that should do it.

Notice that the one eye is in the centre of a mass of eyes - it may look different with colours, depending on how exactly it's coloured.

But yes I agree, it doesn't fit into Doom 3 - there's something...wrong somewhere (everywhere?). As I said, I didn't quite nail what I hoped for.

I was joking bout the eyes... and I didn't notice all the others at first. In all honesty I think that it's too evil looking for Doom 3 (take it as a compliment). Though I really do like the D3 designs, they are just not evil enough. Dare I say their designs are more tame? If the remake was more faithful to the abnoxious evil that was classic doom yours would be perfect for it.

I made a quick drawing

I hate you. :p
I guess drawing is not one of my skills as I had previously thought.
Then again, I always try to draw things at an angle or whatnot. It's been a really long time since I have tried to draw something face on.

Sorry about straying off there.
I can't concentrate or anything right now, so I forget what the original cacodemon looks like. Even though I've shot many of them in the face tonight alone.

If it makes you feel better, my idea of a "quick drawing" may be a bit off.
The caco I did here took roughly an hour and it's unshaded! Try and compare it to my other works (that are shaded). One hour is quick for me anyways - but I've seen people do awesome stuff in 15 minutes!

Don't look down on your own skills - you will get better one day. Oh and hey, I usually do tons of errors in my drawings anyways, so don't be fooled by the level of detail I can cram into my art.

Yes, you dare say that - but that doesn't necessarily mean that I agree with you :-)
Ah, to each his own ideas of what looks evil I guess.

Heh. About time.

I'm not too sure if it'll fit in the doom3 universe. It seems a little too much like the old caco with additional eyes and tentacles, though i have to admit i'm fresh out of ideas to say what changes could be made. If anything i see this caco as an enemy that you fight in certain areas rather than frequently.

The picture itself btw is quite cool ;). I quite like to see some shading on it though.
