Is there anyway to use a joystick with zdoom

Try "use_joystick 1" in the console.

Configure with: Menu->Options->Joystick Options.

Make sure it's set up in the Windows Joysticks/Game Controllers Control Panel applet, assuming you're using Windows of course.
