Making some skins availible

I've wondered how you got skins like Chexman, John Romero, and such. Then, I realized inside of the skulltag.wad, they were marked as hidden = true. Is there a way to enable them without having to go into skulltag.wad and remove the hidden = true tag? I'm afraid if I do that, the whole game will mess up and I won't be able to play online with it.
