Foofoo Posted August 9, 2004 Okay- I'm doing this map and it's become more than 2 megs in size. I used zdbsp to build the nodes and such, and it says: "SEGS is too big for Vanilla Doom and most ports (35482 segs)" And when I try to run it in Boom it doesn't work and it just goes back to DOS saying "Segment Violation". Okay- now tell me people, is Boom limited? Do I have too many segements? I need this level to work with Boom because its for Community Chest 2 and all the maps must be for Boom. So... is this port limited like this? 0 Quote Share this post Link to post

Use Posted August 10, 2004 That sucks, this seg limit even applies to prBoom? 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
wildweasel Posted August 10, 2004 Prboom hasn't updated their segs format yet. And if they do, it probably won't be the same format as the one used in ZDBSP (owing to the influence of Deep in these matters). 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
Moriarti Posted August 10, 2004 ZDBSP has an option that controls how hard it tries to avoid splitting segs. Try adding --split-cost=16 to the command line and see if that makes the warning go away. If not, try larger numbers until you find one that works. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
Foofoo Posted August 10, 2004 are you saying its only a ZDBSP problem? If I don't use ZDBSP I won't have the problem? Because if that's so, then GOD DAMNIT!!! I spent like literally 8 to 9 hours yesterday deleting vertices and such until it went away. and, uh, what is a 'seg' anyway? I know of 'vertices', 'sidedefs', but 'segs'? 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
