You kidding? The major anime that is released blows Disney Away.

And to deadnail: Yeah, X wasn't the greatest movie, but I heard the manga was pretty good. Same for stuff like Akira. Honestly, how can you possibly convert a 2000 page manga into an hour thirty minute/ two hour movie. It just doesn't come out right.

Yeah, well, there's stuff that surpasses Disney, of course. I was just pointing out the fact that most good animes, even the ones with mid-low budgets sport great animation.

/me just remembered Astroboy.
/me remembers watching it every morning before school.

Now I know why my days sucked so much! :) Man, Astroboy is classic superdeformed, stupid annoying anime. It wasn't bad at the time, but mostly everything nowadays blows it away.

I have CDs and CDs of anime to watch whenever I get the time. Tri-gun, Cowboy Bebop, Saber Marionette J, Inu Yasha, Love Hina, Vampire Princess Miyu, and much more. Damn school.

Did Saber Marionette J ever finished? Did the girls reached woman status?

I have no idea cause i'm stuck with the same old episodes over and over :)

Ahh. Anime, one of my favorite subjects. I love anime, especially Dragonball. I also like Pokemon and Digimon (So sue me, I'm childish.). Despite that, I also enjoy watching Vampire hunter D, Patlabor, Ninja Scroll, Guyver, Outlaw Star, Cowboy Bebop, Big O, New Dominion Tank Police, Appleseed, and other such things. I probably couldn't name em' all. I watch too much anime.

New Dominion Tank Police? I've never heard of that one... I suppose that means I have the old-school on DVD then... oh well, another one for the collection.
And good news to all Tenchi fans (and if any of you actually like the edited version I will beat you with a hammer) there is a new Tenchi series on the way following the storyline of the OVA! You know I'm excited.

The animation in some of the older TV series (Gundam Wing and DragonBall are like five years old) isn't all that impressive, but newer ones like Cowboy Bebop and Gasaraki look pretty nice.
In feature length movies and OVAs like Akira, the Escaflowne movie, and Macross Plus, not only is the fluidity of the animation on par with the aformentioned(Zaldron's post) disney stuff, but the attention to character detail is just insane.

Disney may have alot of animation, but most of the time it's just people flopping their limbs around for no apparent reason while singing the most gawd-awful songs I've ever heard.

I'd be jealous but I don't have school tomorrow either, for some Jewish holiday, and on Friday I only have to go to my first four periods and I don't have to do any of my homework.

My personal anime favorite is... *grins* Patlabor (tv series). The OVAs were just... weird... giant seamonsters? That look like Hiromi (I think... you know, the tall guy! Who raise vegetables on the base ^_^)? In a semi-realistic mecha anime? I've seen one of the movies... I thought they were hopelessly OOC except for crazed gun-nut Ota ^_^. Poor Noa... she was never so dark as in the movies... *sighs*. Anyway, the tv series is about the Division 2 (I believe... haven't seen it in awhile. Damn it, no money to -buy- anime!) of the Patrol Labor unit... with a record for screw-ups and odd occurences (ever seen a drunk labor(mecha) pilot grab a police labor's foot and push him around? Heh ^__^ "fight like a man" indeed). I personally like Asuma and Hiromi.... Shinohara Heavy Industries.... crazy anime people... perfect series, even if it's a little old!

Well, here's a weird comparison... I really don't think anime is -better- than 'western' animation... usually plots are. It's an 'American' bias that most people equate animation to kiddy plots, so many animated features (Disney) aren't very serious. Anime can be both child-silly to deadly serious, but many Americans can't comprehend that. Interestingly... due to the different evolutions, many anime don't focus on animted moving things. Yes, they're common, but I notice somewhat less at times... likely due to detail. American animation is (or used to...) focus on movement and actions as a whole. The Secret of Nimh, although -not- an anime and with major plot changes from the book (damn, Jenner is -not- evil... he never even showed up in furson!) is a movie I respect nearly as much as most anime. And yes, I do like -one- evil Disney movie... Robin Hood (the one with vulpine hero) had some very good animation (especially with movement... very fluid). It's sad, as American animation shows so much promise, but usually is forced to cut the plot to a more childish level.... so I usually ignore the idiot bits of US animation in general and watch it along with the anime! Pardon the ramble....

Not only an american bias, I think its all over the world. Here in Germany, people say:

"Wer nicht richtig lesen kann,
guckt sich bunte Bilder an".

(Wilhelm Busch ?)

translation:

"Those who cannot read corectly use to enjoy colourful pictures"

Personally I dislike most Disney characters with their white gloves. But Disney made also very nice films, he did experiment with combinations of animation and real movie. and I have to admit that I watched the movie "Cap and Capper" 4 times (thats a nice movie).

Where to begin... I guess with DBZ. 5 years old? More than ten years old actually. DBZ is from the 80's and DBGT lasted into the early 90's (I think). It's a decent anime, I like it, but it has too much filler (how many episodes to charge the Genki Dama that didn't even work?) The movies weren't that great either. Movie 4 was just horrid, but movies 8, 10 (long live Brolli), and 11 (fat Gogita) were pretty good.

Another common bias of Americans (I'm not sure if bias is the best word for it) is towards the nudity contained in anime. I can't even count how many time people have walked into the room when someone was naked onscreen. People refuse to realize that nudity as not as taboo in Japaneses culture as it is in American culture. People like my friend Cody don't help this much. He keeps what is called the "black notebook" with him at all times... an inch of badly drawn hentai printouts. And he wonders why people give him strange looks.

And to Red_Warrior: "Oo-de-lali!"
