Bots Don't Work

Soon I won't be able to say that to Carn and watch the little vein in his forehead pulsate like... something that pulsates. Not that I still won't do it, but it just won't have the same impact. The new Skulltag Website is up, along with news that the next version of the other popular online Doom multiplayer engine based on ZDoom will be out in a week! Not ZDaemon you big sillies, this update is about Skulltag. Also I think you still have time to enter that banner contest Manc updated about a couple days ago. So hop to it!

I concur. Although, I must respect zdaemon somewhat because it actually has a binary for linux servers. It would be cool if someone knowledgeable in that department would help out Carn.

A linux version has been attempted, then reattempted, but the guy that's been working on it disappears for months on end and produces crashy versions.

There's actually a linux binary (albeit very buggy) somewhere kicking around on skulltag.com's downloads directory, but with .96b coming out shortly, it will be altogether worthless, so there's really no point in linking it.

I know about Traum's linux efforts, but there hasn't even been an attempt at a dedicated server binary. The one that I've seen is a client/server medley like the windows version, and my server can't satisfy the client prerequisites (nor should it need to in order to host a game).

those bots would stand there doing nothing like, a mindless retard staring at your shiny bfg waiting to be blasted, or if you have like 15 of them, they will keep on telefragging each other. a long deserved fix i say

Legend has it that the bots in the next version of SkullTag might actually move around, rather than standing motionless.

Just as long as they don't spend 95.5% of the time humping the walls and running into lava pits like the ZDaemon bots do, I'll be happy.

hehe, for fun I wrote a bot script that simulated a v0.95 bot's behavior. All it does is stand there, and respawn if it dies :P

I should also add that we're doing a daily countdown to 96b's release. Each update tells about some new feature of 96b. So far, there's been two:

The new, customizeable bots!
The campaign system

There will be another update today, as well as one every day up until 96b's release.

Heh. I made it. And no, it was designed for use on any resolution, but Carn's inclusion of large pictures on the news posts has sort of messed around with that.
