Stack Dump

Over at the site of my good buddy SoM, you can see a couple screenshots of the in-development version of Eternity featuring stacked sectors, or portals or whatever the hell you want to call them. Of course Eternity has already had them for a few months now, but this is significant because you can now stack a sector on top and bottom! That's like making a sandwich out of a Doom map! I'm not sure where I'm going with this, so just check out the screenshots you punks.

It's not so much about being able to stack a sector "on top and bottom", you can actually stack as many times as you want.

Oh my, that's excellent stuff!

I still want to test out the netcode whenever that gets sorted out!

Not much they CAN say...
Eternity portals > Zdoom portals

ZDoom's stacked sector stuff is a cheap hack that barely works. But wo says that it can't be improved? ;)

Great. Now Millennium will take EVEN LONGER to finish. :P

Yeah well, don't forget my learning curve, it was a miracle I figured out portals.

Holy Shit! If I actually get into this I'll never see the light of day again... :P
Glad to see that room over room doom never really died, it was just re-made!

a) because they look like... sectors... that are... well, stacked.
b) Zdoom calls it's system that.

Even though eternity did it first! Of course, this feature was not "advertised" enough, as is the case with eternity in general (and by advertising I mean more than posting about it, also word of mouth by other players and so on [size of playerbase comes into effect here]).

actually the term 'stacked sectors' really comes from the build engine, which did all this before doom ever dreamed of it :P

But the build engine sucks solely due to the fact that it didnt have Doom, because lets face it, the world revolves around Doom, the Sun Rises and Sets due to Doom . . . Im gonna go take a Pill . . .

i'm going to assume that was sarcasm or a slight attempt at humour and leave it alone. i cut my editing teeth on the build engine.

LOLZ Humour!

I feel I should reiterate that the portals are still a rendering trick only. This isn't true 3d in doom, and you can't shoot/move through them. So they really aren't much better than zdoom's.

It DID dream of it, or well I did, I tried it once. Then I noticed that it didn't work. I was a very young boy then. in the almighty 1994.

Afaik that's the case for Zdoom also, just that it's also pretty buggy.

so, supposing i wanted to have a wall with an upper half, and a recessed lower half, and on the upper half have a recessed light, and that recessed light would be bordered on the bottom by the wall, rather than having to be open on that side?
