TEXTURES!!

make textures the dn way. That is, I make a texture and insult you, you follow along.



1) Draw the outline of your texture. Awesome.

2)Make some static using the 'add static' tool.

3) Erode (it's a function of PSP5) the static and then grayscale it.

4) Multiply this new layer on top of your texture outline.

5) Make a new layer and add colour. Best make it light tints so your texture doesn't end up all gunky and brown when you layer more shit over the top of it.

6) Multiply colour onto base. Pretty.

7) Make some drippy gunk.

8) Multiply. And multiply again till it looks gunky enough.

9) NeDuplicate your image onto a new layer. Negative it.

10) Then use the 'Emboss' filter.

11) Use the 'overlay' filtery thing on this layer to add your highlights.

12) Add some decals, text etc.

13) Multiply this layer onto your texture. If it's still too bright, use a sunburst fill layer multiplied on top of your texture to dim it down to an acceptable level.



Uhhh... check your image in doom's palette regularly to make sure it doesn't go all gunky. Adjust your colours accordingly.

Not bad. Nice quick tutorial. Overlaying some grayscaled photos of metal, bricks, or something like that oughta make the texture nicer and dirtier.

From my experience, the best way to make textures is to make them in Hi-res. Then size them down to 2x the intended size. Change to Doompalette, set the correct size. And then clean up and misplaced colors. You will get a much better, sharper texture this way.

This is true, actually. The textures come out sharper.
