Enjay Posted January 19, 2007 Cleric for me. Good balance of weapons and good mix of needing to get up close and ranged stuff. However, all suffer from only having 4 weapons per game. That for me is one of the biggest disincentives for replay. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
Ichor Posted January 19, 2007 I may play with the fighter the most, but my favorite is the mage. I actually like his weapons, especially the frost shards. Besides freezing and then shattering monsters into tiny, tiny pieces, you can also do this: 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
Dutch Doomer Posted January 19, 2007 I always played with the cleric on the psx I found it an cool character an bit of both combined into one. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post

It would have been better if they'd at least had a Tome of Power. I know it helped make Hexen 2 less irritating. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post

Impie Posted January 19, 2007 The fighter's great because anything comes near him, it dies, mana or no mana. The cleric rocks, too, as a jack of all trades, and you can never find enough of those gascloud flechettes. I'm seein' a lotta hate for the mage in here, though. I admit he's difficult to play because of his less-than-straighforward weapons/spells, but you can kill shit left and right way easier than the cleric and fighter if you get the hang of him. You just have to be more resourceful with him; balance artifacts with mana and know what to use in the right situation. He's the crowd control/utility guy while the other two are running around boppin' shit one-on-one. Yeah, it takes forever to kill a guy with the wand, but when he finally drops, chances are everybody behind him drops, too. The freeze spell is super lethal at melee range and the statues can intercept enemy fire while you shoot around it with the wand, heal up, or get out of there. And the lightning is a cool fire-and-forget weapon. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
DJShrimpy Posted January 19, 2007 The only thing that annoys me about the Mage is that he's too damn slow. His wand and lightning are literally completely useless in deathmatch. Trust me, load up Skulltag and skirmish on MAP01, you (Mage) vs a Fighter, and tell me how far you get without the bloodscourge. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
Vegeta Posted January 20, 2007 I don't hate the Mage, in fact is the second character of choice for me. The problem with the Arc of Death is that it uses lots of mana, yeah it kills with one shot, but if you miss or shoot weaker targets you tend to run out of green mana fast. The same happens for me with the Fire Storm, it's less powerful and uses practicaly the same amount of green energy. I allways were curious how balanced is a fight between the Figther with his Timon Axe, vs Mage or Cleric with their second slot weapon/spell. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
JadedLexi Posted January 20, 2007 I play as either the Mage or the Cleric. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
Impie Posted January 20, 2007 Vegeta said:The problem with the Arc of Death... Plus, if the target hugs a wall, the attack fizzles instantly. Can't really use it in enclosed areas unless you're really good/lucky. Vegeta said:I allways were curious how balanced is a fight between the Figther with his Timon Axe, vs Mage or Cleric with their second slot weapon/spell. From what I've seen, it's like a tank and an assault buggy shooting at an oncoming freight train and hoping to god the train stops before it reaches them. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
Vile Posted January 20, 2007 Toss-up between the Fighter and Cleric... I suppose I use the latter if I don't feel like trying since his wraithverge is the reliable crowd-clearer and his flechettes are very cheap (Heresiarchs who wander into a tight group of poison clouds are helpless, shield or not). 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
DJShrimpy Posted January 20, 2007 The Mage apparantly has the best magic, but his flechette ability sucks. The Cleric and Fighter seem to have the best flechette moves. IMO they made the Mage so extremely weak to the point that its just plain retarded. The manual says translated to "the Mage may be weak and slow, but he has the strongest magic". No he doesnt. The Fighter and Clerics magic is way better, stronger, and cooler then his. And another thing, why is the Mage so slow? In practically every fantasy adventure game I've ever played in my entire life, the guy with strong attacks is slow, and the guy with strong magic is fast. But I guess Raven thought "Hey, lets make the Fighter extremely overpowered!" In every fantasy adventure game I always choose the magic guy. I try to like the Mage, I really do. :( 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
Vegeta Posted January 20, 2007 Hey Ichor, which port was that? I tried that with vanilla Hexen and didn't work. Oh and you forget guys the Icon of Defender, the Fighter only becomes inmortal, the Cleric phase in an out of existence (while visible is inmortal, while transulscent proyectiles travel through him), and the Mage turns reflective like a Heresiarch (for fun shoot the Blood Scourge to a Heresiarch when his reflective spell is on, then activate the Icon of Defender). 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
Insomniak Posted January 22, 2007 I'm gonna warn you all, DeathKings first hub is nearly impossible with the Fighter. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
Ichor Posted January 22, 2007 It's not that hard, but you will have a rough time in Brackenwood until you get the hammer. I usually go there first so I can use the hammer in the other maps. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
Impie Posted January 23, 2007 I would think the cleric the hardest to play through that first hub with because of all the slaughtaurs; I died real quick when I tried on the normal setting, which brings up my only real complaint about the cleric, his mace. I always thought it should be as powerful as the fighter's axe when it has no mana. It shouldn't take more than four hits from a spiked slab of steel like that to drop an ettin. Those allegedly sucky mage flechettes saved my ass a lot in Deathkings, speaking of. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
Torn Posted January 23, 2007 The fighter, but I wouldn't say I have played hexen that much. I remember I came pretty far, but I never finished it. But I like the hard core punching of the fighter. I think of the start weapons, fight's weapon is best imo. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
jobro Posted January 23, 2007 I tend to play with all 3 characters. I prefer to select Random and let the computer choose who I'm about to control. I like the fighter the most tho. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
Soap on a Rope Posted January 28, 2007 I use the fighter. He's fast, and his hammer is awesome. Strong ranged attack, and a strong melee attack that can be used without mana. The Quietus is kind of lame, but who cares? The hammer is all I need! 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
Anima Zero Posted February 2, 2007 My personal favorite character to play as...the fighter. Speedy, good armor, and gets good weapons for the most part. Only downside is that his final weapon, Quietus, is rather poor (Worst of all the final weapons). Cleric is a close second though. Serpent Staff's life stealing ability at close range is awesome. Let's not forget that Wraithverge is crazy strong. Mage isn't the character I like to play as often, but is hardly a weak character. Its initial weapon is very good for taking out straight lines of enemies all at once. Frost Shards is nice too (What's not to like about freezing enemies solid). Arc of Death isn't too good in certain spots...but if used correctly, it can be very painful for the enemy. Bloodscourge is nice, but needs a fairly large room to be effective in. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
ellmo Posted February 5, 2007 Cleric of course! Railgun for the win! 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
Mordeth Posted February 5, 2007 The Cleric! Nice mix between melee and ranged. But the best thing about it: the poison gas bottles and the Wraithverge. God, I love the Wraithverge. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
Lüt Posted February 5, 2007 I had so much fun with that wraithverge in deathmatch, being the fighter and using discs of repulsion to send the ghosts back at the cleric and rendering his ultra weapon completely useless :) 0 Quote Share this post Link to post

DJShrimpy Posted February 10, 2007 The Wraithverge is too overpowered and makes the Cleric's battles way too easy. Seriously, it only takes 2 hits to kill Korax. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post

I haven't gone past act 4, nor have I played the mage long enough, so don't spoil me anything. Now I use warrior on skill 4, then I plan to go with mage, skill 5. Oughta be a challenge. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post

Korax is the scary dude with the red flame background that taunts you at the beginning of each hub. "Greetings, Mortal" and all that. He's the main bad guy that's screwed everything up in Hexen. Edit: In short, yeah. He's the last guy. To actually answer your question. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
printz Posted February 11, 2007 Spider Mastermind because the Spider dies from two BFG shots, just how Korax reportedly dies from two waves of Wraithverge ghosts. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
Ichor Posted February 11, 2007 I think it takes more like four or five shots. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
