Lüt Posted November 26, 2001 Hey Lüt, you companies other than Creative make sound cards? since when? retardYou mean "companies other than Creative make GOOD sound cards? since when?"there is a difference between brightness, gamma curve and contrast. And when the hell did contrast come into this? Although you're better off using brightness and contrast instead of gamma anyways. My monitor only has so many settings and NO presets.Who gives a fuck about presets? You obviously have an idea of how you want things to look and not even I'd be so lazy as to use a preset to avoid spending 10 seconds adjusting brightness and contrast. In the end they look washed out...As do gamma adjustments.Maybe if you'd've bothered to obtain computer hardware made after 199fucking8 you might've come across a similar issue. I don't fancy the idea of burning my monitor out or breaking these shitty buttons on it from overuse either.'nuff said. But oh well you'd need a job to do that anyway. No, just a little financial management to make the money from my previous job last for the last 8 months, i.e. not spending 2/3 of my monthly pay on fucking weed and console games. You ever find that PS/2 to Serial converter you were looking for?No but I found the serial mouse on the microwave.Cockless wonderfuck.Testicle zit. 0 Share this post Link to post
deadnail Posted November 26, 2001 You mean "companies other than Creative make GOOD sound cards? since when?"Sheezus. I dunno, for about the last eight or nine years I'd guess. And when the hell did contrast come into this?It came into it when brightness only makes things go from black to milky. In the end they look washed out...As do gamma adjustments.Um no they don't. Your rods and cones are out of whack. 'nuff said.I hate these fucking monitors with a built in fucking keyboard. What in the blue fuck was ever wrong with KNOBS AND DIALS an shit? They were 10x faster and lasted 10x longer. No, just a little financial management to make the money from my previous job last for the last 8 months, i.e. not spending 2/3 of my monthly pay on fucking weed and console games. Most of my weed is free and I haven't bought a console game since Cap vs SNK. Consoles are no different than PCs... 99% of released games suck tremendous amounts of cock. I'll probably buy Klonoa 2 soon, though, damn me I'm prolly going to spend a few hundred bucks on everyone I care about for Christmas. Gee, thanks Jesus. Grr. No but I found the serial mouse on the microwave.Good place for it. I keep my old video cards and mice under my pool table. Cockless wonderfuck.Testicle zit.Democrat. 0 Share this post Link to post

deadnail Posted November 26, 2001 Oh no I'm not falling for that again. Hrm, there's another forum classic. Heya Z man, let's change the subject. Can we have one single fucking night where we don't discuss anal sex? Crimony, people will start suspecting things. 0 Share this post Link to post

stphrz Posted November 26, 2001 crème brûlée What's that? It's just the best tasting thing on earth. It's made with heavy cream, sugar and egg yolks. I like to use finely ground vanilla beans instead of extract for flavor. The mixture is placed in custard cups. The cups are then placed in a shallow pan with about 1/4 inch of water and baked for about 45 minutes in low heat till set (consistency of pudding or custard). After you chill 'em for a few hours (overnight is best) you cover the tops with regular white sugar. The sugar is then caramelized. The most common method is to put the cups under an over broiler. I use a blowtorch to melt the sugar instead =). That way, the custard is hot on top, but stays cold on the bottom. Yummy! 0 Share this post Link to post
Katarhyne Posted November 27, 2001 Gawd. Too much to comment on here, so I'll just run over the highlights. L⌂t, you have some weird opinions on computer stuff. First you recommend Win95 over everything else and then you recommend Creative soundcards? Mmh. You're probably an Microsintenvidative. (microsoft/intel/nvidia/creative == Dell; we have shirts at work that say "MICROSINTENVIDATIVE!") Creative DOES make some good hardware though, at least, recently. I mean, back in the day, the AWE64 was an awesome card - all of their PCI stuff has sucked until the Audigy, which is really a nice card; better sound than a Live!, more options, integrated firewire, and lower CPU utilization to boot, plus it doesn't come with a bloatware software package. Then again, I can't figure out how to change the @#)($*)( soundfont. Grr. And yes, for truly high-quality video output, it's important to reach a good balance between brightness, contrast, and gamma. They're not all the same thing. 3dfx didn't use SET commands in the autoexec.bat file unless you did. No official 3dfx driver set after the Voodoo Graphics chipset used SET commands. Nigraz. ::sad hurt expression:: Hmph. I don't wipe my ass with $100 bills. That'd get expensive. Or messy. I still think you have a faulty card, deadnail. And HEY! I LIKE anal sex, damnit. Grr. 0 Share this post Link to post
Lüt Posted November 27, 2001 L⌂tThat's the best mis-spelling of my name yet ;)First you recommend Win95 over everything elseOver 98, 98SE and ME. I personally prefer it over WinNT/2K but because of the programs I work with. When people come here asking which is best for old-school gaming (i.e. they need DOS support), that leaves the 9x series of Windows, of which I'd recommend 95b. Definately not 95a, although I never had a problem with it I've been around when other people have (mostly, my brother). I just installed 95b on this machine (ditched 98se once and for all) and now I'm even more a fan of 95b than before, so watch out :)and then you recommend Creative soundcards?I haven't bought a sound card in 4 years because I haven't needed to. I have an AWE64 and it's all I'll ever need for anything. I don't know about any of Creative's post-1998 stuff, maybe it does all suck but I'd never buy any of it anyways.I mean, back in the day, the AWE64 was an awesome cardStill is. 0 Share this post Link to post
stphrz Posted November 28, 2001 Still is You got that right. It can still do practically anything you need it to do (especially if you are a musician like you are) and sound terrific while doing it. True, it lacks some of the features of the newfangled soundcards but I don't miss 'em. 0 Share this post Link to post
nxn Posted November 28, 2001 I got a x-gamer and I lub it! Although my friend who got it recently had some trouble getting it to work, he says it works great now. 0 Share this post Link to post
deadnail Posted November 28, 2001 we have shirts at work that say "MICROSINTENVIDATIVE!")Well, compared to my work shirts I'm jealous. Creative DOES make some good hardware though, at least, recently.AHEM, I have a CD burner from them that's less than one year old and it is a piece of shit. As for sound cards I still prefer Turtle Beach or Phillips, I've just had much better luck with them. I wish a new one of them would come out with XP support straight out of the box. And yes, for truly high-quality video output, it's important to reach a good balance between brightness, contrast, and gamma. They're not all the same thing. They sure as shit aren't. ::sad hurt expression:: Hmph. I don't wipe my ass with $100 bills. That'd get expensive. Or messy.Ever lit a cigar with a $100 bill? I did that on my 21st birthday when I was really hurting for money. I felt so fucking liberated when it finally burned to ash. =) I still think you have a faulty card, deadnail.I'd like to believe that but I'm still leaning more towards nVidia sucking taint but hey, to each his/her own opinion. ^.^ And HEY! I LIKE anal sex, damnit. Grr.Who doesn't? 0 Share this post Link to post
help420me Posted November 28, 2001 Hey deadnail, if you want to install your old drivers off of the CD, you have to change your current card to a PCI VGA generic card, restart--with 640*480*16 graphic glory--then install new hardware using manufacture's drivers right off of your CD, unless you got one of those nifty driver installers(VIA seams to like those), then try that instead. After a resart, you should have your old drivers back... 0 Share this post Link to post

deadnail Posted November 29, 2001 A. XP will not allow me to install those drivers, it uses it's own GeForce 2 MX driver beforehand. Whenever I try to run the detonator installer NOTHING HAPPENS. Figures. B. I had XP actually running at 640 by 480 and it gave me a warning that I was in a 'very low' resolution and I should crank it ASAP. I thought that was funny. =) 0 Share this post Link to post
help420me Posted November 29, 2001 well then, here's another idea... Fly/drive/walk to Washington, grab Gates by his fat head, and begin to bash it against the sidewalk very hard--until the white meat shows... Pick at his brain for awhile, until you find the source-code for XP, put it on one of those nifty DNA disks and extract the GF2/mx drivers it loads and replace 'em with the ones off of your manufacture's CD. That should fix everything...oh and don't worry about the mess, no one will notice :) 0 Share this post Link to post
SonicTheHedgehog Posted November 29, 2001 I have both an Radeon 8500 and A Geforce 3 Ti-500 and they are both good cards. There is no doubt about it! Both cards are very good cards. They offer great performance and graphics capabilities don't they? 0 Share this post Link to post

deadnail Posted November 30, 2001 Coolbits is on, still won't let me adjust gamma in OpenGL rendering.USE THE FUCKING BRIGHTNESS SETTING ON YOUR MONITOR YOU DUNDERPATE.What Lüt said.Hi newbie. You obviously have no fucking clue as to what brightness does to dark images do you? Apparantly even though you can afford two of the top of the line video cards in the market for gaming you're not much of a gamer, and you certainly don't do any image editing so I can pretty much ignore your fucking retarded opinion. Go eat a cock. Brightness washes everything out, that's why there's gamma, which is what I want to adjust but can't. I'm not a moron you simpering fuckwit I simply want to get my games playable with a decent appearance. 0 Share this post Link to post
Doom-Child Posted November 30, 2001 Detonator was probably NVidia's biggest cock-up to date. Creating drivers that require extensive surgery to uninstall is not a good business venture. Still, there is help. Go get the Detonator Destroyer off of Guru3d and then see if XP will let you back down to an older driver. I didn't have any problem with my GeForce3 until I installed the 22.50 drivers off of Guru3D...it's what I get for trying to be bleeding edge... In my defense, though, they worked spoogaliciously for about an hour... DC 0 Share this post Link to post

deep Posted December 1, 2001 Godammit nVidia couldn't write a driver to save their fucking lives.I'm using the latest XP Detonators from nVidia.com.Latest drivers don't work in XP .. for long. I was having lockups in some games. Currently running 21.41 with no problems. So backlevel the little bitch. 0 Share this post Link to post
deadnail Posted December 1, 2001 Latest drivers don't work in XP .. for long. I was having lockups in some games. Currently running 21.41 with no problems. So backlevel the little bitch.I haven't had any lockups and I'm using the ones for XP. I can't backlevel the litle bitch 'cuz when I got the card these were the drivers available. Of course, if you still have them laying around I'll gladly accept them. =D 0 Share this post Link to post
pritch Posted December 2, 2001 bearing in mind all the trouble Deady has had with nVidia, I'm just wondering if I should think twice before speccing it in a new system me and my friend are gonna build together. We're gonna load XP, but if nVidia are still struggling with it it'll have to be a different card. I can cope with anything except video problems... Any suggestions? (is deady's problem likely to be universal?) 0 Share this post Link to post
