You and others which don't like this name, come up with your own four letter and monosyllabic name except "Doom"! I stay with "Rage".

I like the name Rage as well.

Good thing they didn't call it MooD. :p

oh look, some kind of HD video walkthrough of the game's engine. wowee.

It's impressive how much work goes into modern games. I'm not really up to speed on editing with new engines but the process looks very slick. Coop editing (like cube/sauerbraten) and the fast texture editing are probably nescessary for these huge maps.

Stupid defence, and it's still a bad name.

The rest of the game looks very intresting though.

What's stupid there. You didn't even suggest something else, which could be all the better than what I asked. You just say it's a bad name. So why is it so?

If I don't know what Use3D and leileilol refer to -- and I Don't know -- then I find it an okay name -- shallow at worst. But what's wrong with shallow, rudimentary, modest names? That's the opposite of vanity... and unvain stuff have better chances to be loved/liked/appreciated/used continuously.

I like how it sounds too, more than "Ripped" or "Torn" which are past tense and don't fit seemingly fast paced action games (note that I haven't opened the new movie yet, new views or changed views should appear anytime).

You seem to have missed the joke.

This had better run smooth on a 7800 :/

I wonder if it's a bad sign that it took several minutes until it occured to me that you're most likely not talking about an Atari 7800. c.c

So long as the action is intense (and free of monster closets) and the game doesn't revolve around "atmosphere", I'll buy it and play it regardless.

You mean, like in Foreverhood?

Or, for that matter, in DOOM? For me at least, the... um, atmosphericity is one of the things that makes DOOM great.

balance makes a game great. atmosphere alone is just decoration. There has to be a marriage between interaction within the game and the design. So far the design aspect looks good, I'm just curious to see what these other elements ID is talking about when they say there game play deviates from there traditional run and gun style we've seen for the past 17 years.

I think RAGE is a welcome change.

When Id said they had a new ip I thought they were tricking us.
I thought it would be a new Catacomb 3d game. After seeing RAGE I'm happy its not.Its good to see some new ideas thrown into the mix.

They should call it "rip torn" and you be able to play as the actor

that would kinda lame, nevermind

I guess Rage fits in with the emotion behind the whole "overthrowing the oppresive government in a post apocalyptic setting." The word Doom captures the feeling of being stranded in a demon infested hellhole quite nicely.

Am I the only person who thinks id hasn't made a good game since Quake II?

No, you are not.

I don't know... I think Doom 3 was one of the better co-op games out there. Granted, you need a mod to do that, but still.

Heh, nice.

I'm eager, although id sure does have a hardon for single word names. Or maybe it's just because all the single word games get sequals.

Actually, they also came up with "Trinity" "Darkness" and "Orcs and Elves". (which also, aren't that great)

I don't really see what is the big deal with all of this though, it's not like a game is defined by it's name, sure it's a pretty bad name, but that doesn't mean anything for the game.

Also, Quake Quake2 and Quake3 is the same IP in name only. (Well, that and a few textures and in Quake3's case characters)

I wonder though, why is it that in games each game can't have the same name as another game made by another company, while in movies, they don't seem to have this issue.

For instance, there's (atleast) three movies called "(The) Patriot"

Carmack comments about choosing game names to be harder than people think... According to him Quake II was not going to be a quake named game at all, but since all the good names were taken they said fuck it, we own the franchise.

They should have called Quake II "Attack of the Stroggs", instead.
