Mathematics apply only if you accept the fact that certain things are objective. From a philosophical standpoint you could easily argue that everything is subjective. Mathematics can not prove all.

Ask your science professor, man. Nothing can be "proven" in the realm of science. You don't do experiments to prove or disprove something; you do 'em to see if they support or deny the pertinant theory. If another theory is presented, and evidence gathered in experiments supports the new theory better than the old, the old one is dropped like an empty shell.

True facts are true facts even if no one knows about them. The "proof" thing only relates to humans. Humans question these facts, and need "proof" to believe they are true. How true something is to humans depends on how convinced they are about it, as 1+1 would still be 2 even if no one believed it.

On the other hand, Fredrik. Yo. You just said that people need proof to believe something, right? If no one believed 1+1=2 it would still = 2 no matter who believed it or not, right? Well, what if people had false theories and they really thought that 1+1=11? What if no one questioned these theories and they were all just blindly accepted as fact?

Proof is what makes a theory plausible. I could say that the whole world was created the first time I took a shit. You could tell me precisely when the universe was created, down to the millisecond. Don't believe either, not without a whole hell of a lot of explaining. =)
