Udderdude Posted June 12, 2009 hardcore_gamer said:I have already said it once and now i will say it again: This trailer DOES NOT represent the game. Id software even demanded that it would be removed from the site that first hosted it. That HAS too mean that the final version of the game will look better then what is seen in that "trailer". The screenshots, which look about the same, weren't removed. What they probabally didn't want passed around was how the game is played (aka Rail shooter, maybe they changed their mind and it will be a FPS after all) 0 Share this post Link to post
Enjay Posted June 12, 2009 Trailers for games almost always have the disclaimer of "does/may not represent the final game". However, they often bear a striking resemblance to it. 0 Share this post Link to post

Well i for one find it cool enough that Id Software got the Doom 3 engine too run on a handheld at all. Sure the visuals may look like crap compared too the PC or the Xbox version of the game but hey! It's a freaken handheld for crying out loud! 0 Share this post Link to post
david_a Posted June 13, 2009 I highly doubt it shares much (if anything) with the PC Doom3 engine. It's probably more similar to Quake 2/3 in it's complexity. I don't really see how it's all that impressive technically either - as Carmack notes the iPhone has more horsepower than the DS/PSP, and both of those can do 3D shooters. I also noticed this in the MacWorld article:“We built a completely new play style for this game,” said Carmack. 0 Share this post Link to post
david_a Posted June 16, 2009 Someone on the forums linked to an article (for a different reason) where they talk about the control scheme. It's a rail shooter. 0 Share this post Link to post

spank Posted July 7, 2009 I found it actually pretty good, at least for a handheld game. The accelerometer-based controls are pretty acceptable and are also a nice way to play a rail shooter that otherwise would be too easy with multitouch. Come to think of it, it's curiously odd how this limitation improves gameplay by making it slightly less practical. The graphics did remind me of the Voodoo2 screenshots boris mentioned, but they are definitely better. Bigger textures on an iPhone than a Voodoo 2 could manage, now that's impressive. The levels and the models are surprisingly detailed, although they do seem to have spared memory on the animations because they run at a lower frame than than that of the game. If you've played the original GLQuake on a recent computer you'll know what that looks like. 0 Share this post Link to post
