Having consulted a sage samurai text, I have decided maybe I should shut up and leave well enough alone.

It is a fact that fish will not live where the water is too clear. But if there is duckweed or something, the fish will hide under its shadow and thrive. Thus, the lower classes will live in tranquillity if certain matters are a bit overlooked or left unheard. This fact should be understood with regard to people's conduct.

I suppose passive-aggressiveness is a step in the right direction.

Heh, actually I just got it while thinking about something else. Good work.

Yes, well, I will leave that one alone. I am interested in seeing how my last three maps get reviewed before I have any more to say on this matter. (Astican, CGCmplex, and Falstaff). Honestly, I didn't put enough time into Dagobah to have any further disagreements over it.

Perhaps he doesn't play levels 31 and 32 in ZDoom that much :p

myk is playing with uncorrected aspect ratio

:O

If it's in fullscreen mode on a 4:3 screen, the aspect ratio is automatically corrected.

It's 5:4, actually, although I like how the game looks in 4:3 modes (or that one in particular.)

Tell me gentlemen, a wad that you really enjoyed so that I can see what is to your taste.

map18 in Alien Vendetta, map29 in Hell Revaled 2 for instance.

But hey, that shouldn`t matter.

You should make what you want to make, but imo your maps seems...very rushed. You say you put lots of thought in monster placement, but I really can`t say I notice the well thought out monster placement, sorry!. Also, I think Dagobah is the least plasing of your recent wads, so maybe reviews will be better next time.

Anyway, I somewhat like your "style", I mean...I believe you can come up with some good old school maps (low on detail, weird/unnatural roomshapes, no specific theme, etc), you clearly aim for gameplay and not looks. Just maybe try and put some more work in the maps? I`ve noticed you have spewed forth lots of maps recently, and that isn`t exactly a good sign I think. A GOOD map takes time to make, unless you are some sort of a mapping god with celestial/unholy (pick your poison) visions of exactly what to make.

The Rebirth and Scythe. Both of these feature relatively simple construction with good consistent theming, in well thought out locations which have alot of variety in size, height and battle direction. Rebirth has a relatively consistent difficulty, Scythe ramps it up halfway through Episode 2, and Episode 3 is super-hard and features a variety of playstyles (like the famous MAP26 slaughtermap) which didn't really grab me so much.

For a more precisely detailed suggestion, check out Yesterday's Nightmare or Neith or the amazing Remain1. Scythe 2 and Scythe X are also great examples of both tough battles and beautiful mapping.

We have many other threads where we've recommended megawads, episodes and individual levels. Hope you find those useful.

How hasn't ANYONE mentioned KDiZD?

ZPack is also a hit.

Frankly I'm becoming less and less of a crazy Doom zealot, considering I enjoy vanilla and Boom megawads less and less, because the surprise factor is nil there.

Because no, no, no, no, and no.

very nice hell art in the ih.wad. the lift lowering at the end gave me a strange sensation--the cyberdemon teleporting in for a half second gave me quite a fright.

Vrack 2b is one of the most memorable single levels I've ever played. The aforementioned Scythe series easily composes my favorite DOOM experience.

Well, my problem with it is that when I play E1, I expect short and fun levels. KDizzy just drags on and on and on...

In the "short and fun" category, I've just recently discovered Scimitar while randomly browsing the /idgames archive. Very good! Small but challenging maps.

Great wad! I just blazed through 7 levels. Pretty fun and nice looking. I like those bricks.

Ok, going on and on with that might drop my reputation here. I said forum reputation is no issue, but mapper reputation is a biggie.

Interesting how that description and name sounds like Scythe's.

Can't lose what you didn't have :) hehe. Nah it's pretty universally accepted that KDiZD wasn't to everyone's tastes. ZPack does have a few gold maps, but is mostly flawed layouts made pretty with the Tormentor guide, which was already covered in the Cacowards this year.

So large levels can't be fun?

I wonder how you fare with something like Eternal Doom then...
