Swamper Posted August 20, 2010 I have an old CD with a ton of Doom WADs on it, one of which is whitroom.wad by Doug Ryerson. There's new music in the WAD and I'm trying to figure out where it's from (or if it's original). Is anyone interested in checking out the WAD (can be found here, scroll to the bottom of the list) and seeing if they recognize the music? edit by admin: removed link with easily found warez. here is a legitimate link to the wad in question: http://www.doomworld.com/idgames/index.php?id=14313 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
Megalyth Posted August 20, 2010 It sounds like something from Castlevania. Edit - Eh, maybe not. I compared it to a bunch of Castlevania music, and I didn't hear it in anything. Still, it kind of has a Konami vibe to it. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
Vorpal Posted August 20, 2010 Hrm, that directory contains various commercial doom games. I'm not exactly a fan of copyright law, but posting stuff like that tends to put the forum owners in the legal crosshairs. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
CeeJay Posted August 20, 2010 Yeah, i saw the Doom 2 IWAD there along with the manual in PDF format. A big no-no. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
Swamper Posted August 20, 2010 Gah, many apologies. Thanks for fixing the link. I just saw that it had wads on it. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
fatal error Posted August 21, 2010 I think I've heard that song in a movie... But what movie is the question. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
I Drink Lava Posted June 22, 2022 Hoo boy, taking a big risk bumping a 12-year old thread like this but I found out the real source thanks to Youtube's over-aggressive Copyright ID system: 6 Quote Share this post Link to post

There's no better reason to bump a twelve year old thread! 4 Quote Share this post Link to post
The BMFG Posted June 22, 2022 are any of the people involved in this thread before the bump even active anymore lol 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
Walter confetti Posted June 22, 2022 I played withroom some time ago! The version on Heroes, actually, that has been stripped of all the new graphics at the start as well as for the music. I wonder where Doug found a midi of a k-pop singer in the 90s... Is it been part of some sort of demo files for a CD? 1 Quote Share this post Link to post

Megalyth Posted June 22, 2022 Weird, I didn't get a notification. The forum software has FAILED When I first noticed this thread, I thought the date said August 20th 2020, because that actually made some sense, but I was mistaken. I didn't even remember posting here, so much time has passed. Thus, I bestow upon you, @I Drink Lava, this forum's greatest honor: RISE FROM YOUR GRAVE It's interesting to hear the true source of the MIDI, since I've been waiting for so long. So many sleepless nights and solemn days... Spoiler I kid, it's cool that you found this out, but what amazed me even more is that you remembered this thread even exists. I salute your dedication and memory. 4 Quote Share this post Link to post

There was an underground South Korean DOS scene in the early-to-mid-90s complete with its own MIDI community. The old Chaos soundfont came from this niche subculture, with a MIDI cover of the Nadia: The Secret of Blue Water opening as its demo file. No doubt this must've spilled over into the BBSes of the time, probably from bilingual users. 5 hours ago, Megalyth said: what amazed me even more is that you remembered this thread even exists. I salute your dedication and memory. I actually found this thread linked from another "old PWADs with custom music" thread several years ago and this MIDI ended up stuck in the back of my mind. It's a strangely memorable MIDI, moreso than the actual level it's from which sucks pretty bad. Now I just have to solve the mystery of where SLUGFEST.wad MAP02 is from. 2 Quote Share this post Link to post
