Nomonster speedrunning

Recommended Posts

Also, I forgot to check no05 time, and it looks like that was done in 23s as well (23.46 fastest according to the Cz-n site). Didn't look at the run, but the time seems close enough to 22 to try it.

I guess if anyone wants to look to improving nomo records for doom1\doom2 then you should check compet-n,dsda and czech-n first :) I just wanted some practice with movement\nomo myself though. czech-n time for map 12 is also 10 seconds faster than dsda time for example.

Also a good idea to check P-DANG; not sure how many of those records still stand outside of Doom 1, though. Cz-n had nothing for Doom 1, and Compet-N has mostly outdated Doom 1 times, so P-DANG/DSDA would be the best sources of current Doom 1 nomo records.

My czech-n archive is still getting processed slowly for the DSDA upload, but Andy is working on finally bringing the tables up to date.

Zeromaster, if you want a specific nomo goal, try beating my map02 glide nomo. It is a dirty record (and unrecognized officially by cz-n), because I used pr+'s menu pausing to switch mouse sensitivity around just for the glide. I kinda wish it would get eradicated in some manner, heh.

Better yet, do map03 with the rocket jump :^) Unless someone already did it and I just missed it.

*Cough* I actually streamed it in 18s because someone was boasting with his 19s time @ twitch chat, though it seems that I have lost the demo. I wonder if there's a way to quickly check which demos are nomonsters. I may have continued the demo after getting the 18s (to make it a full warm-up run), so the file size might be bigger than the typical map02 nomo D:

I can check the demos one by one because I don't see the point of deleting it, but I might have done so by accident. If I don't find/upload it, it never happened at least what comes to the record time.

The map03 RJ is 'quite' difficult, btw. I highly recommend to observe it under replay editor before just trying it out by luck.

And I also made map07 nomo without RL while streaming. At least I found that demo (please no upload to DSDA).

Can you find the stream date? You can sort by "Date Modified" times and poke around in the appropriate times.

No, I don't. I'm not even sure if it was 2014 or 2015 streaming session :D Which means, I should go check those demos too (all which are under 10KB).

Opulent's Demo Analysis Tool (direct download link) can output various demo statistics including if it's -nomonsters and on which map the demo plays back.

Example output taken from the text file:

Spoiler

Example basic output for hr222135.lmp:
Demo version is: 109
Skill level is: 4
Map: 22
Single-player demo

Respawn mode is off
Fast mode is off
Nomonsters mode is off
Point-of-view player is player 0

Demo length is: 21:35.45 (45341 gametics)

Map Player Player Percentage
Monsters 313 316(3*) 100 %
Items 9 5 55 %
Secrets 1 0 100 %

Note: Monsters killed does not mean player did it.
*Respawned Monsters killed by player
(Included in player kill total)

Monsters still alive at end of demo: 0
Kills per minute: 14.64
Lowest health of player: 17

I believe there are also specific bytes in the .lmp file that determine this stuff so uh, if you can find someone who knows a bit more about this they could write a script quite easily, I guess.

Also, haha, good job at the map07 strafejump. I didn't think I would ever see this done non-TAS.

Well, bleh, checked 450+ demos (manually) and no cigar D: I must have deleted it by accident. Saw couple 19s (none were faster then dew's) in a full run though D:

I don't think anyone's going to believe this, but...

doom 2 map 02 in 18.31.... it took me 1 attempt.

I watched dew's run right after and I don't feel too bad wasting the 17 second time by missing the exit switch and a really bad bump at the start. I was feeling a bit nervous once I saw how quickly that glide went, I could easily do 100's of attempts and not get it that quickly. A couple of bumps don't really compare to the time loss of a slow glide, so not sure if I'll try again for 17 seconds.

edit: also map 03 rocket jump? anyone know a TAS demo showing it in no monsters?
edit2: I also checked my fastest ever map 02 glide which was in a 30nm attempt a few months back, that was 22 tics from colliding with wall (xpos about 1056) to getting through (xpos about 1055.9), in this nomo run it took 33 tics.

Map 03 in 18.77. Three other exits included, two in 19, one in 18 where I accidentally menued after making the jump. Don't watch the last second of this run.

Some nomo ILs for Doom episode 3. Also mentioning the record times since all of those are currently on P-DANG and not DSDA. E3M5 uses the line skip.

E3M3 in 0:20.94. (previously 0:22.80 by AdamH)
E3M4 in 0:33.86. (previously 0:35.74 by AdamH)
E3M5 in 0:21.86. (previously 0:23.94 by AdamH)
