Katamori Posted January 15, 2011 In short, it's a ZDoom-based sandbox style level. You don't have to fight if you don't want, but you might do a lot of other things: eating burger, playing console games, driving a car, killing hellspawns with a bowling ball, etc. I saw videos on Youtube but there are only Hungarian videos. My friend, who called himself "Reptile", made 2 review videos about Doom center. The language is Hungarian so I think most of the people won't understand any speakings in the videos, but if you don't know the WAD, you can see there: 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
EarthQuake Posted January 15, 2011 Wads like these tend to be somewhat controversial. It's interesting that you describe this one as a "sandbox level", because over at ZDaemon we call them "HQ" wads, named after the infamous [MAG] Headquarters. I guess your description is actually more fitting though. While the concept of them was original back in the day, today they have been done, and done to death, and the results are usually meh, because authors aren't creative enough to come up with their own shit, or just aren't talented to pull off something so ambitious. There is also the issue of purpose. Many of these wads get boring really quick. There just isn't enough to do, and you're mostly wandering around a newbie's first map looking at sub-par architecture and an absence of any substance resembling gameplay. Now, there are a few wads that stand out. I've seen earlier versions of this Doom Center, and it somewhat stands about above the rest, but it suffers from the same problems that all "HQs" do. It rips ideas from other wads before it, and doesn't really introduce anything unique. You might think I'm being overly critical here, but I've seen literally every HQ-style wad you can think of, so many that the memories of them just blur together now. So where am I going with this? I dunno. I guess I'm just pointing out that this is nothing new or exciting. I'm still waiting for something to come about that will trump all others, that will actually be worth playing time and time again. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
gemini09 Posted January 15, 2011 Where can I download this? It doesn't look particularly fun, but there's loads that I'd like to rip and use in my own Wad. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post

phi108 Posted January 15, 2011 I remember playing this in a Skulltag server, it was pretty impressive, as I hadn't seen anything like it before. The usable vehicles and going into arcade games was interesting. It didn't have much of a purpose aside from "The things you can do!", but I can see some of the ideas being implemented in jokewads or otherwise, like computer interfaces in Hacx or a professional bowler being called on to fight hellspawn. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post

SyntherAugustus Posted January 16, 2011 I remember DoomCenter the website Anyway I spent 20 mins or so at this and have some notes I guess. -It's for Skulltag, mainly because it spawns skulltag monsters but also because it was meant for a multiplayer environment. -There's a couple of neat things you can do off the bat I suppose, like the spraypaint. -...Anything else requires money. To get money the fastest, go grab a car (walking into it) and drive it into the holodojo place, and while inside the car summon monsters and run them over. You can get plenty of money doing this, just dont die. From there you can get all the money you want to do....eh.. not much. I'll admit the asteroid game was neat. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post

Fuck that noise. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
