What are you playing now?

During my hiatus from the forum, I went back and started to play TNT Evilution. It's not exactly my favorite when it comes down to Final Doom, but I was just in the mood for it.

I'm currently on The River Styx, or whatever it's name is - I kinda forgot the names of TNT's maps.

i have finally come around to trying scythe as of last night, first episode down. so far every map's pacing just feels incredibly slick and quick, a significant but welcome change from my preferred pace. i added the vanilla smooth weapons (vsmooth2) around like map04 which just makes it feel even more slick.

Going through more of @myolden's fantastic Nostalgia megawad and a bit of BTSX Episode 1 too. All this dooming lately really make me feel like my gameplay improved, which i'm super happy about.

I finished Ancient Aliens last night. By the end, I really felt my lack of skill: I saved before every major encounter and moved on once I'd gotten past it, which is a perfectly fine way to play, but not a good way to improve, and I beat Floating Arena thanks to a scripting bug. Sometimes the finale's supporting complement of monsters would teleport to their marks, and sometimes they wouldn't, and I got an exit when they didn't. Fortunately, it's a megawad I definitely want to play again sometime. I enjoyed the mellow, surreal-sunset look and sound of the last few maps.

I think my next game will be The Plutonia Experiment, which should help me practice fundamentals a little better.

Edited by Mr. Alexander
used "vibe" instead of "look and sound" when those last maps are pretty hectic

I just finished up Revolution! on Switch, which was really excellent. Now I'm gonna play TNT on there, and Plutonia + the MIDI pack on PC. Let's see how doing these pairings on PC and Switch will work out for me.

There's a few WADs I'm aiming to complete as of now, but I'm I'm mainly focusing on Deathless and Auger Zenith. I was doing Sunlust but decided to take a break from it because it's starting to feel like it's out of my skill level (I'm on MAP18 playing from pistol start with 2 saves per level at most)

How do you feel about the controls? It is very hard for me play with a controller instead of a mouse. When I play on the switch I need to lower the difficulty to hmp even on maps that I can beat on uv on pc.

I'm in the same boat. Playing Doom 64 on the Switch via TV mode was fine, felt very natural due to its less intense pace. Playing any other WAD via handheld mode and my brain just nopes out at the tank controls.

I guess I just have to put in the hours to accustom to the control scheme, but it feels like I'm hardwired to play Doom with mouse/keyboard at this point (which is kind of funny, because SNES Doom was my first experience with the series).

Yeah, it takes a lot of getting used to. It's not as bad for me as other FPS games since there's no z-axis, but dual sticks in general is still unintuitive. It's really hard to not rely on the bad habit of strafing a bit instead of adjusting just my aim. I end up running into a lot of imp fireballs that way.

At the risk of admitting to being a basic bitch, I'm playing the latest official Unity addon "Revolution". For a wad that was made 21 years ago, I feel really modern.

Finally making my way through the classic Scythe 2 for the first time!  Just made it to the 5th episode.  Been having a blast with it!  ^_^

Gonna be playing through Super MAYhem 2017! Mario Bros X DOOM make an odd couple, but the texture work and funny little sprite replacements to match the theme is hella cute. Not only that, since I recently cleared out Sonic Mania’s Encore Mode (those emerald special zones were a bitch to  do, but really fun once you got it down) I’m also gonna give Sonic Robo Blast 2 a try after sleeping on it for so long. Hopefully, getting the emeralds on my first run shouldn’t be too hard!

I'm currently playing GD too, but I'm stuck on that evil mfing trap on Map 09 "Broken Records", so i rage quit and started Scythe 2. Really enjoying Scythe 2 so I think I might finish this before going back to GD, though I've really enjoyed GD too so far. I've just got my ass handed to me so many times on that level that I got bored lol.

I'm also nearly done with BTSX episode 1, which has been a slog, albeit an extremely enjoyable one. It's so well stylized that I would probably enjoy running through the levels even without demons present. I have lots going on right now lol, I just can't only play one wad start to finish without starting another.

Yeah, Something that going down has is that the more you advance the more difficult it gets, but I feel that it is a little easier compared to sunder 2406, and now that you are talking about scythe 2 I have heard of it but I have not had the opportunity to try ,it I think that within I'm going to play it soon.

Going back to the topic of Wad Goind Down, I feel that it is a particularly difficult wad since I had to kick my ass off to pass it the first time... even in some levels it was so difficult that it took a few hours to complete them.
