map29 tyson 44:43

https://youtu.be/iBMamR77-48

txt:

Spoiler

Tried this many many years ago and died with a couple guys left. Very surprised no one had knocked this one down sooner given how easy it is! The hardest part is the manc room which I tackle first. I glide through torches to kill 2 chaingunners which are normally only killable with rocket splash damage. The rest of this demo is slow and meticulous classic tyson fun. I enjoy the chainsaw and berserk option because both are very useful in different ways. Got this down in 2 hours total, which is a bit quicker than expected. Easy mm tysons that have yet to be done include 12, 18 and 32. 5 and 8 seem very difficult, but possible. 23 may possibly be possible, but I have yet to look at it. I think 30 is probably safe to say that it's not doable at all, but I'm open to being surprised. Will hopefully get the easier ones I mentioned done this year. Wish me luck! Or feel free to help me out ;)

please make m28 tyson within a hour)

Can give a little hint: if you plan "trap" cybers like vdgg did, use sector #164 (platform with manc) instead of Support3 structure, it much easier and faster.

Speaking about myself - ending arch duo is absolute killer for me. Can't pass them even on saves. :(

D2ALL UV Max 3:21:56

Notes/Thoughts:

Spoiler

My first exit since 2016, my third exit overall, and my second improvement of my previous run! I love Memento Mori so much.

This project started when I came back from a big break in 2022 and played a lot of newer stuff (Anomaly Report, Squonker wads, etc.) and really got back into making doom demos again. By October 2022 I decided to try and get all of the rest of the Memento Mori map uv max records. At the time I had about 10 or so that weren't already mine, and as a challenge, I set out to do them all in a week. Anyway, after that I started practicing the rest of the wad for another d2all run, and here it is!

Memento Mori is the first d2all so far of my project for 2023-- to do a d2all of all of my favorite 90s wads: Memento Mori, Icarus: Alien Vanguard, Memento Mori 2, STRAIN, Requiem, and Hell Revealed. Will I actually get them all finished this year? Well, I have plenty of time and, so far, plenty of willpower, so why not? Only Icarus and HR have existing records at the time of this writing, so there's a lot of under-explored territory ahead for me. Fun fact, the demo for Hell Revealed, 6:05:42 by johnfrinky is, as far as I know, the longest d2all of any wad ever recorded. When I recorded my first Memento Mori run in 2015, it had the same title with a time of 4:10:52. Things are getting longer! Maybe MM2 will last longer than 6 hours? Probably not...

Back to this demo, it's ten minutes faster than my 2016 demo, but the bulk of the time save comes from playing the first 25 maps a lot more aggressively than before, and with the knowledge of re-routing much of the third episode (21-30). I personally was aiming for a time of 3 hours and 15 minutes, so I was a little disappointed with my performance in 28 and 29 especially. I got really nervous, as the previous furthest I had made it was 24 in this session (which lasted about a week of daily attempts). Not to mention I had dosed on some marijuana tincture that was peaking and I had exhausted my third cup of coffee of the day. I tend not to get too nervous when doing long movies as much as I used to, but this one really got me. 28 is such a mystical map for me, the music, the look, the fear of a cyberdemon around the corner, the massive secret and monster count, and the fact that it is very close to the end of an already long and arduous journey. Given that this would be my third d2all uv max of MM, I tried to play it closer to my map demo of 12:48, but ended up buckling a bit and taking it easy on some of the encounters. Either way, it clocked in about 3 minutes ahead of my 2016 demo (20:04) and even more ahead of my original 2015 uv max (23:53!!). Still, I hope to do better next time.

If I can make good progress on learning and completing the other wads I am setting out to do, I will probably return to Memento Mori sometime soon, but if not, I know that given that this is my favorite megawad, I will probably continue the slow, creeping crawl to being under 3 hours... in due time...

Hi, couple things:

  • Please switch to latest DSDA-Doom for recording over From Doom with Love. Seems that port isn't really kept up-to-date, and it would be best to use a recent version of DSDA-Doom for speedrun verification purposes.
  • WRT doomgirl_01.wad, is this just a HUD modification or are sprites modified too? If it's just HUD, then it's probably fine, but if not, then it shouldn't be used for demo recording.

To be clear, you are free to post demos of whatever ports you choose (and whatever extra WADs), this is just for DSDA submission purposes.
