Andy Olivera Posted November 22, 2015 47 demos this week. Cyber: Fixed. Thanks! I started splitting the NM100 demos when I noticed there were a few that left through the normal exit and wasn't sure what to do with them. Now I think it would be better to just say all max demos requiring 100% Secrets (UV Max, Respawn, NM100) MUST leave through the secret exit, or be relegated to Other as an 'attempt'. Thoughts? 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
Azuruish Posted November 22, 2015 Is it requires to D2ALL or for all single demos (pistol start)? If D2ALL then of course as not all monsters were killed and secrets were reached in general. About 'pistol start' I'm not sure that is good idea. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post

After some fact checking I have to retract my previous post. The CN route for d2map15 max and nm100s uses the normal exit, so this is probably too pedantic from us. It shouldn't matter which exit is used in single level max categories and the only distinction between them should be "faster" and "slower". :) 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
ExclusiveAlias [CBD] Posted November 22, 2015 Excuse me Mr. Olivera, but my UV-Fast MAP07 of The Darkening never got uploaded and it's in the demopack. Small error I'd assume?_? 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
Andrea Rovenski Posted November 29, 2015 I noticed episodes are labelled as "D2EPx" on scythe x, and scythe 2 they're just labelled movies. Any reason for the difference? 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
Andy Olivera Posted November 29, 2015 103 demos this week. Cyber & dew: Sounds good. I'll put the maxes back together, eventually. Still, it made me think, 'What about an E4M2 NM100 leaving through the normal exit?' Ouch! :-) ExclusiveAlias: That LMP is actually another text file, so there's no demo to post. Similarly, your nova MAP01 Respawn contains a copy of the MAP02 demo, so that won't appear, either. Hopefully the right files are still hiding on your HD. Cyber: scythe2 used short episodes, and I hadn't started recognizing that until valiant. To be fixed later. Thanks for the reminder. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post

Ouch! :-) Such "afficionado" variant demos are definitely interesting to insiders, but I don't think it's worth the hassle and potentially vague ruling to separate them into their own category. A comment in the max or misc table would do, I'd say. I mean, how cool would it be if one completed a map pacifist style while walking? :) 0 Quote Share this post Link to post

Andy Olivera Posted December 6, 2015 48 demos this week. Max category demos should now be together regardless of exit (once again). Scythe2 episode runs now appear as such. As an aside, I'm a bit surprised there are so few. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
Azuruish Posted December 7, 2015 Hey Andy Olivera. When i visit doomedsda site i always feel like there something missed or not enough. Maybe it's not necessary but what you think about add 'Download' and 'Rating' section/option. That on Top 20 were not only wads and players but also were top downloaded and top rated demos. It would be great. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post

Who else? I hope exist some protection from bots but overrated demo is easy figure out in this case though. Idea of it is find 'great' collection of demos and put it on top. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
ExclusiveAlias [CBD] Posted December 7, 2015 Can you remove re05-221 as both demo files are actually "05rocketz", and the demo dubbed re05-221 has no completion time. This one is another lost demo of mine. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
j4rio Posted December 7, 2015 I wouldn't bother with adding ratings personally. Maybe adding a possibility to leave a short commentary at demos or something like that to make archive more interactive, but no ratings. It's been already mentioned, but just in case - DSDA isn't hall of fame. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post

Azuruish Posted December 8, 2015 Obviously... But there must be also demos too as i think. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
ExclusiveAlias [CBD] Posted December 9, 2015 I want to apologize for my manic state and delusional rude attitude from the "Quick Questions" thread. I was going nuts and getting grandiose/egotistical and that's not respectable towards anyone. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
Andy Olivera Posted December 13, 2015 13 demos this week. Very slow, though I appreciate the break. ExclusiveAlias: Removed (and replaced). Thanks! Oh, and no need to apologize. We all have a few posts we'd like to forget, and I didn't think much about it after the initial read. As for the ratings, they were entirely Opulent's doing; I just carried them over. When I did the redesign I wasn't interested in making the site interactive due to the amount of work required. Any type of user feedback system will have to wait for DSDA 3.0 (a wiki format, perhaps?), whenever someone feels like making that happen. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
Andrea Rovenski Posted December 13, 2015 My computer was busted all week, so that's why it was slow ;) 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
Ashstrodamus Posted December 13, 2015 I'm still bitter as shit about my one missed monster on Swift Death M32 and still no closer to beating it again. Pretty good time I thought. Oh well, I'll smash it to pieces soon. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
MD922 Posted December 26, 2015 In Ultimate Doom, E4M8 UV-Speed in 0:49 by Andy Kempling is not listed as a CN record, though the updated CN has it listed as a record. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
Andy Olivera Posted December 28, 2015 54 demos this week. MD922: It's been awhile, but weren't Kempling's demos disqualified after the cheating scandal, or was it just the few that were determined to be cheated? 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
j4rio Posted December 28, 2015 Heh, is there any link for that? I'd like to read through some of that ancient drama. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
4shockblast Posted December 28, 2015 j4rio said:Heh, is there any link for that? I'd like to read through some of that ancient drama. I dunno if there's any original posts up currently (and I obviously wasn't around at the time), but there's a small paragraph about it on Andy's Visions of Doom news archive here. If you search "Kempling" you will find the news post. Also some info on the 10 Years of Doom page. Not sure if there's any archive of the original pages where the accusations were made, maybe someone who was around at the time would have more info. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
Memfis Posted December 28, 2015 http://doomedsda.us/wad2100.html Yousuf's Map10 demo is not a max: he skips a lot of monsters. I guess he thought that getting >100% kills on a map with monster spawner is enough for a max? 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
Andy Olivera Posted January 4, 2016 43 demos this week. Memfis: Fixed. Thanks! 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
Ryback Posted January 4, 2016 j4rio said:Heh, is there any link for that? I'd like to read through some of that ancient drama. Oh yeah, this old controversy. Happened just as I was starting to get involved in the Doom community, so I saw a little bit of it. Adam Hegyi accused Andy Kempling of using slowmotion to cheat in some recent demos (six in particular were specified), and got five other speedrunners to cosign. He banned him from ever submitting to Compet-N again and sent a message out to warn others that Andy might have submitted demos to. The accusation can be found here. Andy's response can be found here. In it he admits to recording some runs on his own build of Dosdoom 0.47, as well as having built a port that could do slowmotion and demo connection. A short overview by Opulent can be found here. And finally Doomworld news archives of the period give a decent idea how this all went down. How this was all resolved only the main actors involved know. But I do know that Kempling was unbanned from submitting to Compet-N, the Requiem levelset was released without the two suspicious Kempling demos, and Yonatan Donner (one of the six signatories) would go on to start Tool-Assisted Speedruns, showcasing dozens of demos recorded with Andy's Tasdoom engine. Don't know for sure but I'm pretty certain Andy's n1m3 runs were disqualified from Compet-N. Also they were probably the reason Adam was very careful to specify that only demos recorded on the original executable were valid submissions, when he updated the Compet-N rules a month or two later. From memory the n1m3 and Requiem runs are nothing remarkable. IMO the Chordg Tyson definitely has some assistance, and I've never seen his Chordg UV max so can't tell you if it looks odd or not. Not at the DSDA either - anyone have this one? 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
