888mikem888 Posted July 8, 2011 This sounds really amazing! Are the monsters from the classic DooM going to be in this? Is there any more in detail about the characters you play as? Maybe one character can be costom made (Obviously the one you start with) Because you know, the main guy of Doom is "Suppose to be YOU". How long do you think the plot will be? Is it centered around Hell as well? Seing as it's an RPG, will the character's stats be upgradable? Do you plan on upgrading the graphics? How long do you think it might take for this to reach 100% completion? Sorry for asking so many questions, this just seems really cool. If this doesn't get finished, or if it ends up it development hell (For example, like Duke Nukem Forever) then I WILL find you, and beat you! 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
General Rainbow Bacon Posted July 8, 2011 I'm working on it with him, and I can tell you right now, it's gonna kick ass. The normal monsters are gonna be in, there will be more party members, and a lot of other stuff including the monsters from Realm 667 and more! We're aiming for a full length 40 hr RPG, Doom stuff, with Dragon Quest/Final Fantasy style gameplay. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
Clonehunter Posted July 8, 2011 What program is this again? Is it easy to use? After 40 hours, then what? 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
General Rainbow Bacon Posted July 8, 2011 We're trying to figure out if we can put an infinite dungeon in and make it have a rogue-like aspect. There will also be side-quests you can only do after finishing the main story. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post

General Rainbow Bacon Posted July 8, 2011 They will each have their own skills like in most RPG's. That's all I can say for now as it's still in the very early stages. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
888mikem888 Posted July 8, 2011 Well what about the graphics? I have to be honest, the graphics are the only thing I find disappointing. I understand there are limitations, but will the graphics be updated past old school atari stages? 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
Spazman Posted July 8, 2011 Yes, we plan to update the graphics in the game, but just improve on them, since the engine only supports 4-bit (16-color) images. like the NES. As for the characters, here are some descriptions of them (from what I have so far): Flynn Adrain Taggart (Will be changed later on for the "Guy in Doom is You" Theme) - A corporal sentenced to court-ordered duty on the desert-moon Tei Tenga, after slugging a superior officer while on mission. Flynn is well-trained in all types of combat, and is the main 'Leader' of the Alpha Team. "Crash" Andrews - A female demolitions expert and skilled saboteur from the Ad-Mulian sector of Earth's lone moon. Was shipped to the Tei Tenga moon to oversee some other experiments in that general area, and is assigned to the Alpha Team. Nick "Ranger" Richards - A foul-mouthed marine straight from the slums of New Vega city on Earth. Has strong rivalries with Flynn, and is a heavy-weapons specialist. Was self-inducted to the Alpha Team. "The Sarge" - No one knows his real name, and everyone doubts they ever will. Even though he is higher rank than everone else in the Team, he is not the leader, as Flynn was the group choice. "Sarge", even though he felt a little underaccomplished about this decision, welcomed it. He specializes in long-range and plasma weapons. Charon- Hell's guide of damned souls to their destinations. He rides along the shores of the blood-rivers in his fleshmassed boat he uses to transport damned souls. He feels highly oppressed under the Spiderdemon's rule. The program we use to make this is shareware: it's called O.H.R.RPG.C.E. Look it up on Google. It's a good, simple, stable engine. --If you have any more questions, comments, etc. just ask.-- 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
888mikem888 Posted July 8, 2011 Well, honestly one of my biggest concern right now is the graphics. I can live with it, but it just looks so goofy. But I do have to say there little victory dance is funny. Was there no way you could use sprites from the original doom game? I know where to get good sprites for Crash (No not that stupid looking one from Skulltag, A good one). Also, what about the music? I don't mind the music, but it never changes (I mean with the explorer screen, not the battle). These are nit-picks but I'm just curious. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
Spazman Posted July 10, 2011 Even though we have gotten a great deal done with the RPG over the last week and a half, we still need help. A simple team consisting of a few key members is not enough to make this take off! We need volunteers for the development team for the game. Present us with ideas! help with the scripting! Do something! I'm not looking to start up a huge debate over what goes where, but i think it's time we try to make this thing happen. I will gladly supply the tools necessary to modify the game, and add new content. However, whoever wants to work on the game will have to post their updates somewhere. Whether it be on your own website, Mediafire, or another filesharing site. If updates are posted, please let everyone know! and if they're not able to download the stuff just yet, don't sell em short. Post a few screenshots from the game (Print Screen keyboard button, then modify with Paint or another picture editing tool.) We need all the help we can get. if you need to be informed on something laready in the game, or have any other questions, please don't hesitate to ask! 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
Spazman Posted July 10, 2011 The next version of Doom RPG has been released on Mediafire. Here is teh newest link: http://www.mediafire.com/?8n6a24th4vjy0rv The next few updates made were truly amazing. We're trying to step up the graphic detail beyond Atari- quality, and some of the level detail so far is quite eye-catching. If you want to know what i'm talking about, here's the links to the newest development! http://wearesilenced.webs.com/apps/photos/album?albumid=11845406 Don't mind the name of the site. It's just a post on a secret area of my Band's website for the RPG. Please try the game if you haven't already! 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
Spazman Posted July 10, 2011 I already posted the link to the newest version above. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
yellowmadness54 Posted July 11, 2011 haha, was very fun actually. I was confused as to how you planned on working this out they way you described, but it works very well. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
Spazman Posted July 11, 2011 The Game engine for Doom RPG now supports mp3 files, so Hi-def music has been added. Best of all, it still works on DOS! More work has been done to new portions of the game, but many places are still inaccessible. that annoying yellow aura is gone from the main character. BONUS: You can now name the main character, though many people in the game will still refer to you as Flynn, the main character. Still needa fix dat. here is teh new link!: http://www.mediafire.com/?x61b5i5skkp6r7z 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
Spazman Posted July 13, 2011 I've been working at this for the past few days, but some major improvements have been made to the game. -There is another new place to explore, with a few more monsters. -The Phobos Surface map has been recolored to make it look more like Phobos, not Mars. -On the Phobos Surface map, there is another new enemy called the "Dune Zombie". Make sure you are well armed before taking this guy on! -In the new place, there is a new "Shop" called "Automatic Selling Unit #1.". Basically, it's a computer on the wall that sells you weapons. Don't worry, all items are priced fairly. -If you are growing tired of the lame old battle knife at the beginning of the game, the shop will give you a free pistol. -Animations have been added to the game. Most are there, but some are not yet finished. -Even more maptiles. -MP3 Quality music due to an engine upgrade, but no copyrighted music, though. -The boss' difficulty has been raised, to make it more of a good fight. -Work is beginning soon on more map areas. Most importantly: "Welcome Center", "Hangar South", "Ventilation Shafts", "Sewage System", "System Processing Area", and "Toxin Refinery Entrance". Spazman Posted July 13, 2011 Man, have we been working. The Knee Deep in the Dead set for Doom RPG is coming on fast, and we have proof! Already, some of the Cutscenes have been made and put into the game. Death screens are being put in. Weapons are now sellable in the shops. And, to top it all off, i'm still giving out copies of the Demo to anyone who wants one. Seriously, this is something big. http://www.mediafire.com/?a421of6prsa5v1i 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
Spazman Posted July 25, 2011 Okay. I know it's been a little bit since anything has been posted on this project. Well, I'm here to tell you all some good news: The game has not been cancelled, and so far, there's a lot more cool stuff you can do with it now. Also, this game includes even the monsters from the Realm667 Bestiary, by permission of Tormentor, who we still give thanks for now. There's been a lot of stuff done with the game so far. Let me narrow down some of the features implemented into the game so far: - The game keeps the original "The guy in doom is You" concept. However, to fit this title more, you can name the main character to your liking. -You can use the environment to your advantage. You can literally rip boards from wood crates you find in the base, and use them as weapons. (If anyone has any other ideas as far as this topic, please let me know) -The mission is no longer a one-man death-wish. You finally get a good team in this. -no more overpowered enemies and weapons. -Amazing new maps to travel through. -So far, at least 15 enemies have been added. -So far, at least 5 weapons have been added. -The Intro storyline is finally finished. -More stuff keeps coming our way! Be on the lookout on this thread for more info regarding the game! 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
Spazman Posted July 27, 2011 Released pics of upcoming areas in Doom RPG! Locations are: Barracks, Mess Hall, Phobos Anomaly Teleporter Room (Unfinished) Oh, and for anyone who wants to play the tech demo, (updated), I will send a link to anyone who requests one from me via this forum thread. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
Spazman Posted July 27, 2011 here's some early art for the Doom RPG game as far as the Doom Marine's armor. Since most RPGs were in a manga/anime format, we're gonna see what happens if we try this too. If anyone could help us out with some of this art, please let us know! 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
wildweasel Posted July 28, 2011 I keep reading the thread title and thinking that this has to do with the mobile phone Doom RPG. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
Spazman Posted July 28, 2011 Not at all. This is an original PC RPG game based on Doom. I heard about a project similar to this a few months back, but it was cancelled. I don't plan on cancelling this one! 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
Mithran Denizen Posted July 28, 2011 It could still use a more distinctive name, not that such a thing is a matter of much priority. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
Spazman Posted July 28, 2011 what do you recommend? I still need a name that ties into the doom theme. How about just the Episode name itself? KDITD? 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
Spazman Posted July 30, 2011 Freakin incredible! Doom RPG is being featured on SlimeSalad.com! This is a big achievement for us, as well as the Doom franchise! This will surely get more people interested in Doom if they haven't already played it! I will post a link soon of the article for the game! 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
Spazman Posted August 1, 2011 Wow. it's been quite a long time since I posted anything here. But I have good news: The game is still being worked on. And, just for a treat, I'm giving the newest screenshots of Doom RPG: Knee Deep in the Dead, along with one pic of my other game-in-progress: Alone in the Dark (Conversion)! And lastly, a pic from my Alone in the Dark conversion project: 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
wildweasel Posted August 1, 2011 The AOTD screenshot has a serious scale problem, in many places. The player character sprite (I assume that's him, that tiny guy there) is way too small to even stand up to the piano, let alone the tables. The room is way too spread-out and empty-looking (Big Empty Room Syndrome), try bringing the walls inward a little or just adding more furniture. And I realize this was also a problem with the original game, but it'd really help if you were to make better use of lighting and shadowing, and maybe find some way to contrast the floor from the (honesty quite ugly-looking) walls. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
Spazman Posted August 7, 2011 Another update is coming soon. After the issue of HamsterSpeak magazine, which proudly has Doom RPG in it, I will release another WIP copy of the Doom RPG to whoever wants a copy. In the meantime, here's a quick screenshot of what is done on one of the newer areas now: 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
Spazman Posted August 8, 2011 This is the latest version of a PC version of a Doom RPG. It's not like the iPhone version, since this actually ties into the original Doom. Also includes some storyline structure from the Doom Doom Bible. Here is the link: http://www.mediafire.com/?ac517ofgly8gtc1 Posted in General Doom, because well, this is generally about Doom. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
Spazman Posted August 8, 2011 More artwork planned for the Doom RPG. All of it is original. I'm trying to get better at the artwork, so I don't have to pay someone to do it for me. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
