Me too. I feel that using mouslook and crosshair etc. Ruins the fun for me because it sorta makes it easier, and it feels more comfortable to just be restriced to no mouselook :P

Because I play coop almost 100% of the time (in UD and Doom 2 we play survival) I often don't understand what people are talking about. ie, map28 of Scythe was relatively easy. "Easy" meaning that I probably died a few times, but not dozens. :) In coop nothing ever really stands out as a tough level unless there were multiple cyberdemons and I was out of ammo.

I've been reading id's name literally as the letters (Eye-Dee) instead of "id" as in "bid." I only realized after watching an interview with John...Romero. For the longest time ID as in ID Card was how I thought of it.

As for scythe28, when I played through the WAD I was on skill 1, so it was much easier and only took me a few tries once I figured out what was going on. Reading what people said here I tried it on UV. It took me at least 30 tries to get it.

I still really like the level. It's a refreshing break from "shoot monster try not to no ammo".

I usually godmode and idmap on every single Doom game and custom made pwads I downloaded, because although I love the game, I'm not really good at it, especially tackling some of the toughest enemies like cyberdemons. I even idclip if defeating an IOS is near impossible (AV Map30's, for example). What can I say? Doom is such a fun game, I never get tired of it, and there's so many wads and megawads with outstanding design by some of the most talent mappers that come and go, or continue to make maps to this day. (Anders Johnsen, Erik Alm, and Kristian Aro, just to name a few, are prime examples of mappers that know how to produce such amazing and exotic aesthetics in their maps).

I remember having the same misconception. It was around 1997 when I was in highschool that someone said it the right way and I was like- "What?... oh, right, id. I thought you said something else. Heheh. heh. yeah. I know some idiot who calls it "I.D." Psh! What a dummy.". That mistake was almost unforgivable back in those days. No way I would have admitted it back then.

I like to godmode + all weapons + infinite ammo + fastweapons through maps, mainly just to enjoy the music and take in the atmosphere. I haven't actually played any maps properly for at least a couple years.

additional saves require additional bums, so a second slot would be 'bumbum' or 'bum2'. I like the idea of using various flavours of bum as you suggest, but there is something about the purity of the lone bum that I find aesthetically pleasing.

My confessions

-I still have no idea why when Doom 2 is patched, the white bars in front of the first switch in Underhalls are removed.

-I was looking forward to Doom Rampage Edition back in the day and was infuriated when the download wasnt available when it was completed

-I not too long ago managed to acquire Doom Rampage Edition and I am only very slightly enjoying it

-I think Aeons of Death is a fun mod

Am I one of the only few that just say Plutonia is by the Casalis? Some people tend to say The Plutonia Experiment is by Team TNT, that's kinda wrong, right? I mean, sure, the Dario and Milo Casali were with Team TNT while creating Plutonia, and it came with Evilution for Final Doom, but isn't it safer to just say it is by the Casalis? Because I feel that by saying Plutonia is by Team TNT, that would imply that Ty Halderman and the other members of the group were involved in the making of Plutonia.

For a quite long time, I thought slime 5-8 is brown, but slime 1-4 is green. Perhaps I'm kinda daltonist in matter of brown/dark green. And for an even longer time I never noticed that slime is not nukage.

Archy: E1M1 is probably my favourite map, for purely sentimental reasons.

Not entirely Doom related, but: I just now found out that holding down the 'sprint' button in Wolf3D also increases your turn speed. In Redditlinga: Mind = blown.

That's been how I'd been pronouncing "id software" up until recently. I think had to do with my first exposure to their logo in Commander Keen, since both "I" and "D" were upper-case in that.

I'm feeling weird if I'm not starting a level with 200% health, 200% blue armor, unless it's the first level. And then I hardly ever pick up green armor.

But at least I've stopped the continuous quick saving. Now I only save at the level beginnings.

I tried pistol starting a few levels too, but it just felt weird to lose the weapons I had collected. Felt like it broke the continuity.
