Tritnew Posted September 14, 2015 DMGUYDZ64 said:Anyhow , the real reason of DOOM 3 fail was because it didn't offer something "New" , The gameplay and environments felt so repeatitive, And worst part of it is being Futuristic Marine and still having to hold your "Flashlight" instead of it being attatched on your armor or weapon . I think BFG Edition Improved what you last mentioned, but when people see BFG Edition they say "DURR, IT RUINS DOOUM 3, HURR DUUR", when It Infact Improves It, they really wanted It to go action based but I guess It failed for some fans. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post

Doom 3 was improved, it was the Classic Doom that got butchered in that and in the laziest way possible. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
Da Werecat Posted September 14, 2015 DMGUYDZ64 said:You obviously do . Sure . For example , it is a fact that Half-Life flashlight sucks and always sucked . The way its battery works makes exactly zero sense , and it forces you to stand in the dark like an idiot and wait until it recharges before proceeding . Worse yet , this horrible gimmick leaked into other games and totally ruined them , including Doom 3 . 0 Quote Share this post Link to post

Flesh420 Posted September 14, 2015 I don't think either are better as they're two different generations of FPS. Enemies patrolling intensely scary, and the first Shambler/Fiend encounter piss inducing. I remember mostly from those days that "enemies hunting you down" was The Talk of the streets. The world you entered so bizarre and shit actually moved. And back then there was something very satisfying about Weapon Progression, something I still try to capture in my Doom Mapping, for some reason. Something about finding the SS on the second level of first boot was fucking fantastically awesome. Just floating awaiting warm hands and continuous trigger pulls. But nowadays I can hardly play Quake 1. I don't know why ... 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
DoomGater Posted September 14, 2015 For me, Quake was only a nice tech demo, but no game. I missed a story and found the leveldesign boring. Of couse I bought quake when it was released, but I never played more then one or two levels. I actually completed it _after_ playing Quake 2 and Quake 3. Today, I like it as a DM game, but it really can not be compared to the uncomparable DOOM. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
rampancy Posted September 14, 2015 they are both awesome. people seem to be divided into two camps, those who think id makes the same game every time, and those who dont think they are similar enough. it kinda reminds me of nintendo and zelda. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post

Like Doom is uncomparable (the truth is the word 'incomparable' is true...). No old game can be compared with it. even Quake Doom was the second FPS (after wolfenstein. I read this in many websites) game But it's gameplay , weapons & enemies were more wider than wolfenstein... 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
Cacowad Posted September 14, 2015 We shall not speak about wikia, for wikia is evil and outdated. to remain on topic, i tried quake some years ago after having a blast with doom2, and i was really disappointed, all levels looked the same, the character felt so SLOW it was embarassing. TLDR i got bored really fast. Still love Q3 DM toh, at least the starting weapon is not nearly as bad as the pistol. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
Jon Posted September 14, 2015 There are some absolutely incredible quake maps out there. Check quaddicted. Honey is a favourite. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
VGamingJunkie Posted September 14, 2015 Are there any good Quake tools, though? I can't imagine there are any DoomBuilder equivalents. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
TwinBeast Posted September 14, 2015 Radiant is pretty fast for laying out blocks, kinda like drawing the sectors. Worldcraft/Jackhammer are nicer for selecting stuff, but aren't so fast in the block drawing. Of course the map formats aren't exactly compatible with the different editors. Like Jackhammer can import .MAP made with Radiant, but Radiant doesn't understand .MAP files exported from Jackhammer. All the graphics editors are horribly outdated/discontinued. Wally is ok for adding textures for level editor use, but can't do anything about changing the GFX. And is missing some stuff that are basically standard features of any program. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
rampancy Posted September 14, 2015 http://kristianduske.com/trenchbroom/ this is a relatively new and cool looking level editor for quake. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post

Yeah, but with the simple editing of the config file by setting the lighting to Vanilla, It's perfect. Da Werecat said:DURR DEE DURR, I LIKE PRESENTING MAH OPINIONS AS SCIENTIFIC FACTS. What? CyberDemonEmpress Posted September 15, 2015 I kinda lean towards Quake, simply for it's atmosphere and level design. But atmosphere sometimes outweighs gameplay for me. I do think Doom overall has the better gameplay though. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
SYS Posted September 15, 2015 I hold Doom and Quake in very high regard. They're equally mind blowing and innovative. It's hard for me to pick a favorite. I guess being eight years old in '93 and your friend fires up his dad's copy Doom. It was incredible. I never seen anything like it in my life. I could almost say seeing Doom for the first time was a religious experience without sounding too hyperbolic. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post

I did get my adopted brother Into DOOM, though he really can't get Into the modern FPS controls I configured for DOOM since he's usually used to the PS3 and Xbox controls. But oh, I love PSX DOOM, I think It literally scared me to death because I heard the track In the "Lunar" map In PSX Final DOOM's TNT episode, I heard those demonic voices and I kept running around the map not knowing what I had to do due to being frozen In fear. THAT's how the game got to me emotionally the first time. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post

If you call removing all creative incentive for modding, using a shittier engine, turning up the lights which gets rid of the whole atmosphere part of the game and generally being more for consoles with barebones graphics options and motion-sickness inducing FOV an improvement then sure 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
