Cool pic of Romero - he's always been the healthiest looking of the bunch.
I remember being shocked about how small the average id employees arm size was - never realized that when I was younger.

At 5cm ± 0.5cm wide, I should fit right in!
Which wouldn't be a bad thing, I'd love to mod a newer engine. If I had half a clue how to. I should search around for the Doom 3 editor

Doom 3 editor is built in standard Doom3.exe, launch it with a parameter +editor +r_fullscreen 0. Thread from 2004.

The hammer weapon idea is awesome! I'd prolly still be playing quake if it had that weapon. Richocheting lightning bolt would have been cool too. They should remake quake with all the things they were toying with originally when they were making quake.

Also, was the computer that the E1M5 demo was playing on a 386?

I just found out that when you hold the "shoot" button/mouse the marine makes funny face like he's taking a shit. This happens no matter what gun/chainsaw you use.

I've played doom since I was 8 years old(not so regularly but sometimes)
and I never noticed. Just yesterday when I was testing a map.

heh, I remember holding down the fire button on the chaingun just for this reason alone.

I can add to this one for you then. In the PSX version of doom, only the Chaingun, Plasma Gun and I think the chainsaw do this.
Additionally, the first shot of every chaingun shot is always bang on target, hence the chaingun tapping technique of pressing fire at a certain rate to take down very distant targets. Done me a lot of favours.

just found out.

are new textures in Doom 2 and were not in Doom 1. This never really stuck out to me until I was editing in Doom 1 and realized I couldn't find them.

Since I've been playing it again recently, the GBA version of Doom 2 removes chaingun tapping. It also gives the shotgun vertical spread. It's strange, I know Doom 2 doesn't run on the Doom engine, but I always thought that was just the rendering side of things, I don't see why they'd make gameplay changes like this.

A while ago, I found out that the shotgun sprites lack color quality in the near-black parts because when they were first implemented (Alpha 0.2), the palette lacked dark colors. That must have been overlooked when the palette did get more dark colors.

Didn't know that the chaingun was stuck directly in the SM's body, I used to think it was part of the seat thing.

They do look like edited photos, from the high contrast and the rough shading and coloring that has more in common with the photo-based mastermind sprites than the more pixeled/digitally-created look of Doom's other textures.

Yeah, and it's a relief when it happens so you can focus on it's mom without having to juggle her children as much.

Apparently the SSG's total damage capability is higher than the rocket launchers (splash and hit combined) by 12 points. Though it's rare.
