I was talking to Lüt, our resident revenant, and I got to thinking: If you ever ran into someone from these boards, or anyone you know just from games or online dealings, and got into a real face-to-face or phone conversation, how would you refer to them? How would you want them to refer to you?

Well everyone just calls me Liam anyway so it doesn't matter. If they wanted to call me Bardman or something I guess that's fine.

Hmm, if I knew the person's real name I'd probably use it if I met him/her face to face, but if not, I'd just use his/her nick until I'm told what the real name is.

I'd probably just ask "do you post as " and then start calling by real name.

I always thought it was weird when people called me Lüt in an IM or on the phone.

I'd at least try to call you Dean, because shouting "Yo, Deahie!" across a crowded street would be kinda weird.

On my BBS we had annual meet-ups with the users, and at the 1st one , where no-one knew anyone else, it was held at an hotel in Bournemouth England, there were around 120 of us booked in for the overnight drinks and get together, people were milling around in the main bar, some knew one another as they were local to each other, as I went to the bar to get another beer, I heard this very loud girl's voice (Stardust) say "I bet that's Fod", we were ALL using on-line names, and even after about 10 of these get togethers we STILL do :)

Heh, turns out it's the third choice, with only a little stuttering. Crendo and I met up, spent a few hours playing blackjack, and spent a whole lot of time talking (while everyone else suffered through the Tomb Raider movie). I think I managed to corrupt- I mean, convince him to come to UTD. ;)

Heh, I've been thinking of going on some kind of roadtrip before I get stuck in a permanent job. Too bad most of the people I'm best friends with here live overseas.
