DuckReconMajor Posted February 14, 2012 I mean that in the little hidden room where the switch to open the door to outside. There's a backpack in there. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
printz Posted February 14, 2012 Usually when I find the exit, I move forth and get out, especially when I'm in a megawad. I'm not to fond of looking for secrets, because chances are that: - there's none at all, causing the permanent 0% score (I'm using vanilla+ Doom for vanilla megawads by the way) - the secrets can be hard to find, but unsatisfying (simple doors with dark small rectangular rooms with item reserves), thereby wasting my time better spent on combating demons. Rarely are secrets as effective as those seen in Episode 1, and that might have been because my lack of experience on Doom secrets back then. Besides, it's utterly pointless. There are no rewards in vanilla Doom and similar. What's the point of collecting the Soul Sphere on the column if there are no more monsters? Let alone the fact that I can still be defeated in the next level, or the next level being too easy to need that Soul Sphere. But secrets are nice and have to be there. But I tend to kill all hostile monsters I see, because I want to get rid of their annoyance. I even try to kill Demons and Lost Souls who can't reach me, because I want to be safe when I get there and make sure they're not part of a larger ambush. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
Nevanos Posted February 14, 2012 Nah, only when I feel like the map is partically hard and thinking that there must be another big weapon for the map. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
Maes Posted February 14, 2012 But is anyone casual when playing Doom completely? 0 Quote Share this post Link to post

40oz Posted February 15, 2012 I usually go for all secrets, items, and kills when playing single level wads, or other stuff that wouldn't merit playing more than once. I tend to blast through megawads many times so getting all the secrets aren't that important if there's a chance I'll find them again another time. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
Aldaraia Posted February 15, 2012 I prefer to get 100% on everything, if possible but it doesn't happen as often as I'd like it to. I just feel more comfortable with even numbers and 100, is an even number, no doubt. I go through areas several times, just to soak it all in, though its usually when I'm trying to find a damned switch..or a secret. I got a tough time with finding secrets, they get to me, you see.. I like take my time while going through a decent level, as someone at a restaurant would take time to savor the food. If I end up looking the exit button in the eye, and I discover there are still a few monsters lingering around, I exit anyways, with a bit of dissatisfaction. After all, they were probably in some obscure secret area. Secrets in Doom have some strange ability to infiltrate my calm demeanor towards gameplay, unlike anything else in video games. If the map maker had the audacity to show parts of secret areas, I'll start combing through the area in hopes of finding the way to it. I'm pretty bad at finding secrets, my usual tactics are hugging the wall while pressing the spacebar, or listening carefully while going through areas once all the monsters have met their maker. If the creator was generous with bullets, I'll bust out my cha-cha-chaingun and start blasting every suspicious sector. It appears I don't do it enough though. Not finding secrets has a real potential to get under my skin, and can even get me angry. If I the secret area has window, such as a conspicuous megasphere or a weapon I don't have yet. I'll stick around the area and focus all my effort on finding it. If I still can't find the secret, and it is something I desperately need, I end up opening the map in Doom Builder and finding the tags for the secret. Same happens if I am about to check out of a map, and decide to examine the automap for tallies, and if I discover I've missed more than a few secrets, its usually not a good thing. If I've had enough frustration, and am impatient enough, I'll fucking idclip my to the booty, guilt not included. Depending on my mood, I'll find those secrets one way or another. I win either way. ;) 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
Acid Posted February 16, 2012 Usually satisfied with at least 1 secret found. Otherwise, exit first, replay later. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
