I honestly think I spend more time modding Doom than actually playing it. My priorities are completely and totally not out of order at all.

Mod author. Still, my projects tend to be over-ambitious, and usually never get done. I know I should start smaller, but I want my projects to stand out from the rest and not just be another generic small-scale WAD. Oh well.

This is me.

I'm sure people would play something small and generic over nothing at all.

Who wants something small and generic when there's a gorgeous hunk of over-ambitious vaporware demanding our attention? It's a matter of knowing how to "sell the sizzle". ;-)

I'm a player but definitely not a competitive one. Weird poll choice...

same here. i play wads i find on the net and like, although i'm not dedicated enough for speedrunning. i like multiplayer, haven't played it in a while, but plan on changing that. dabbled a bit in doombuilder2, but never had time for more serious attempts at mapping. i've played much more in the past, but when you have to sit there staring at a screen at work, then you don't feel much like doing the same at home.

I've gone a little into mapping, but I tend to program (because I'm a programmer) and play way more than mapping. My only real contribution to idgames is "Invasion of the Damned" (which I only made one level from scratch)

Poll fail. Try again.

Why fail? It's pretty obvious that someone who designs levels (or entire mods) is also a frequent player. You all know what printz wanted to ask.

Mapper, player, modder, in that order.

I find now that even when I am playing Doom, I am always looking at texture choices, monster placement, level layout. Dammit I can't switch the mapper off even when I just want to chill and enjoy a good level.

Been a player all my life up until a year go, when I finally decided it was high time to make my own maps and release them. I still play quite a bit if only to scope out my competition...

I'm a regular player, Used to make some maps in the past but I failed badly at it. Now I just play other peoples maps. I may try and get back at mapmaking if I have spare time.

I'm a regular player. I finished every official wad on UV, that makes me a DHT DOOMMASTER, but I guess that doesn't count anymore in 2012 :-)

Mapping is cool, but there are no comfy editors for linux and btw. it's boring to play selfmade-levels, so I don't map. Well maybe occasionally edit some existing DM levels and add some secret passages or weapon storage chambers only I know of, hehehehehe. But the fun of that wears off quite quickly...

You sir are my friend, I just can't stop looking mechanically at things when playing a map. This obsession is such that I can run minutes around the map once everyone is dead just for the sake of enjoying the layout, texture choices and mapping tricks.

Lately, just a player. Haven't been able to find any motivation to crack open an editor over the past month or so. I'm sure i'll start designing again soon enough.

I've spent the last month trying to get a room to look nice, still no luck. Haha

if you can include Dehacked patches as programming, then I do it all. Lately just sitting back and playing Doom has been my strongest point. I've gotten a ton of enjoyment out of playing random wads out of the idgames archive. My work with DTWiD really helped me to get better immersed into Doom without having to rely on detailed architecture and stunning visuals to interpret what the author was trying to portray. A lot of the time I'm playing these maps just to study the types of levels people wanted to play, discover innovative trap ideas and find their hidden secrets!

I don't do much speedrunning but I do love to watch people do it. I also love the occasional deathmatch and capture the flag games, and coop nightmare rushes.

I've been mapping a little more lately than I have earlier this year. It's been feeling a little more fluid and the results have been pretty cool. My maps have been coming out looking much different than they used to, and I think it's for the better. I've been putting more emphasis on angled lines, and utilizing hidden secret ways to extend the gameplay on what would otherwise be a short map.

I've been working with DeHacked a lot, playing around with strings, states, and stuff. Altering the behavior of weapons, creating new effects, etc. I'm starting to become fluent in how it works since converting perkristian's weapon animations to dehacked.

OK so now we have 54 Mod/WAD makers and 25 regular players. Not enough regular players - who plays all these maps?

As much as I'd love to name myself a regular player, unfortunately I had to choose "speedrunner", given the fact that 80% of my playing time is trying to break a record o just record a new demo which would be at least watchable.

I think the majority of modders and programmers are interested in playing other peoples' work. :P
