Foodles Posted April 12, 2012 I couldn't tell you what the very first wad I played was, but one of the first, and certainly the most important was super sonic doom - this introduced me to the features of zdoom and sparked my interest, it was still years later that I started to map and found doomworld though. 0 Share this post Link to post
Marcaek Posted April 12, 2012 One of the many random WADs on a D!Zone disk. The first I can name is afaik the Doom Resurrection demo, with a DEH patch that turned the plasma rifle into a railgun. 0 Share this post Link to post
Lila Feuer Posted April 20, 2012 This one off Doomgate back when I was 9 or 10. 0 Share this post Link to post
Negatronica Posted April 20, 2012 One of the first WADs I remember playing was maproom.wad. 0 Share this post Link to post
Relic Posted April 24, 2012 doom2.wad Still just as fun to play as when I first got it :) 0 Share this post Link to post

RestlessRodent Posted April 26, 2012 The first PWAD I have ever played would be KNEEDEEP.WAD, which is the sample level set for DEU 5.21. I played it back around 2000 or so. The rest is history. 0 Share this post Link to post
cannonball Posted April 27, 2012 First pwad would have to be marswar, then followed by 2002ado. I picked up the doom cds back in 2005 simply because I fell in love with the game whilst playing with a friend a few years before. Only started serious speedrunning since last year. 0 Share this post Link to post
Luke Gevaerts Posted April 27, 2012 I can't, for the life of me, remember the name of the first pwad I ever played. Some things about it I do remember: - I played it back when I still used WadEd 1.83 on a 98 SE machine; - One of the maps was a gigantic castle that resulted in saving issues on UV; - One of the maps had a dining area called "Chez Baron", or something like that, where the tables were loaded with gibs; - One of the maps had an area blocked by three green marble plates with text on 'em, and you had to find all three keys lower the plates and proceed; - I think it was one of those pre-source-port wads that tried to tell a story using textures instead of scripting (which didn't exist back then); - I think I got it from /idgames, or wherever it was housed at that point in time. 0 Share this post Link to post

Maes Posted April 27, 2012 That's fairly easy: Castle Of The Renegades 2. @Memfis: heh, and I was wondering why it had "2" in the title. I only ever played the Doom II version, not the original. And BTW, all that stuff was in the same map ;-) 0 Share this post Link to post
Luke Gevaerts Posted April 27, 2012 @Memfis, Maes: Yeah, that's the one. =) I should take a look at it again some time; see if it's still as impressive as I remember it to be. 0 Share this post Link to post

Phobus Posted June 6, 2012 It'll be oneof the following: Simpsons Doom (for the original Doom) South Park Doom (Doom 2) Penguin Doom (turns the Demons into Penguins - possibly the one from Wallace & Gromit: The Wrong Trousers) Pacman Doom (turns the Demons into Pacman and replaced a lot of the sounds with random bleeps and boops) If I had to guess, it's the penguin one. No idea where my Dad was getting all of those things from. He'd managed to patch the Doom IWAD to replace the standard Demon grunt alert sound with "I'll swallow your soul!" from Evil Dead 2 at some early point, which led me to believe that was an early, in-development sound that they'd cut out in later versions (and Doom 2) It took until 2005 for me to finally find out the truth on that one. First actual level would be one of the following: YAKWORLD.WAD BUNKER.WAD Doom in Tibet (TIBET.WAD) All of this would have been around '94 or '95. 0 Share this post Link to post
Never_Again Posted June 6, 2012 FOREST.WAD v3.2 off the CDROM that came with the book Tricks of the DOOM Gurus. 0 Share this post Link to post
Xeriphas1994 Posted June 6, 2012 First of any kind was DOOM1.WAD. After I beat Ultimate Doom, I played 1-ON-1.WAD because it was listed first in the Maximum Doom folder, heh. Thus my first PWAD-not-1994-dog-food was either E1L1RQ.WAD or DEMON.WAD (which I thought was a version of Cameron Newham's "Daemon", although Funduke says not). 0 Share this post Link to post
Siggi Posted June 6, 2012 The first non-IWAD doom WAD I ever played is The Lost Episodes of Doom. Until finding that page now, I honestly had no idea it was a commercial addon for Doom. All I can say is that I've specifically kept it in my Doom collection as Jupiter.wad for the simple reason that it's the first addon I ever played. In a way it feels like I've got a rare treasure. :P Come to think of it... it being commercial does make sense as I do remember the book mentioned on the wiki page. I also have a vague memory of some disks with an old Doom map editor (DEU I think). The point in my life when I played this WAD and made my first levels are definitely the same. Nostalgia'd. 0 Share this post Link to post
bimlanders Posted June 9, 2012 First one I played was back in '94 with goodlord.wad (later named forest.wad). If you break it down, it's not a very good level set. The textures are haphazardly applied and ugly. But the gameplay flow of the first three levels is still a lot of fun, with loads of secrets and fast paced gameplay. I remember liking the admittedly cheap looking 'forest' sky back when I was fourteen. That just blew me away at the time, that there was more Doom to play. 0 Share this post Link to post
mouldy Posted June 9, 2012 After playing original doom on and off for 18 years I only recently discovered you can play maps people had made themselves. This was shortly followed by the discovery of this site and 18 years-worth of custom wads to catch up on. And to think I nearly lost interest after trying a bunch of crappy random maps before stumbling on the cacowards and trying out scythe 2... 0 Share this post Link to post
