The first one I played through entirely without it involving ZDaemon? Icarus- Alien Vanguard. Was largely entertaining, although some of it is a blur to me now.

The first one I played ever? Possibly an early version of UAC Invasion on ZDaemon or coopbuilddm.wad, whose author sadly passed away whilst he was working on it.

Doomsday of UAC,(or uac_dead.wad) as I had read about it in the 3D game Alchemy book. I had tried to play Aliens TC first, but couldn't get it to work.

First PWAD I can remember playing was fox.wad, a MAP01 replacement I downloaded from Doom Wad Station. I remember dying a lot when playing it, mainly since I was novice and was still using Doom95 (which I still use but not often).

First megawad I played was REVENGER.wad, also from DWS. Got horribly lost and had to cheat and skip some levels there.

Oh god, I can't remember. I want to say Hell Revealed, back when I was still quite ignorant to the doom community and didn't know what kind of wad I would be playing.

Really interesting to see people's firsts. Lots of AV and HR here.

For me, it was Doomed 2 Die. The same website is still up, http://www.linux.sh/doom.shtml with a copyright date of 1996. I'm gussing it wouldn't have been much later when I discovered it.

The maps have aged like milk but there are some really cool ideas here that really impressed me at the time. I liked how the twitching 'zombie' on a stick was placed in the middle of a lot of enemies to give the illusion that he was one too. Great times..

My second was a Dwango-like pack of DM maps, but with no custom music. I remember alot of them having the Entryway "Tekgreen" feel to them. The only other bit of data that was changed (I think) was the pistol having the shotgun sound with the cocking bit cut off. [EDIT: Sheesh, I just remembered - At the time I didn't even really know what Deathmatch was, and just thought the person had put a strangely low monster count, because there were a couple around. What a dumb little 7 year old.]

After that it was DOOMCITY.wad, HELLRUN.wad, Simpdm.wad.. And then things just got out of hand and here I am now.

A little offtopic, but I remember scoruing the internet for years looking for "Doom online" until i finally found Doom Connector one day, which quickly lead to discovering Zdoom and Wadauthor. I remember when it was a struggle to find a game online! I'm so glad things have gone the way they have. Whenever I hear someone say Doom is "dying" I can't help but remember the days when there wasnt always ~100 players online at any given time. :P

This .wad. I got it from a PC Gamer magazine. It's a slaughtermap prototype kinda map, I guess. Lots of enemies.

I've replayed it and it's a pretty crappy map. Mostly boxy rooms attached to each other. But back in the day I remember I thought this wad was awesome beyond comprehension.
