Phobus Posted May 18, 2012 I don't want to be "that guy" but a lot of your subgenres are incorrect. The most glaring ones (to me) are Metallica and Megadeth (who are half of the original 4 Thrash Metal bands - although TBH I'm not familiar with either of those songs, so they may well be more Heavy Metal if they're from the mid-late 90s or early 00's) and Disturbed (Hard Rock) and Atreyu (Possibly Metalcore, although Blow is more like Hard Rock; definitely not Thrash Metal). I tend to go with the approach that it's either Heavy Metal or Rock, to help me avoid that sort of pedantry ;) I like all of the songs (and more of the bands) that I'm familiar with from that list though! Most of the last 17 particularly, but also Nemesis. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post

Phobus Posted May 18, 2012 The thing that makes me happiest about this thread is the presence of Gojira in a list (DooMAD's, to be precise) :D Quite a few of the metal bands I like have been listed in this thread already, although of this doom/sludge/stoner stuff is making me feel a bit mainstream :P 0 Quote Share this post Link to post

In your dreams! :P Ok, Nightwish pretty much lost it with their last 2 albums but Amberian Dawn? That band is the epitome of mediocrity! 0 Quote Share this post Link to post

DoomUK Posted May 19, 2012 saifi said: Linkin Park Korn Expand DooMAD said: Deftones Expand Don't want to be an asshole, but none of these bands belong in a metal thread :p. I'm sure there's other egregious examples of non-metal being listed in here but I've not heard enough of these artists' stuff to make a more informed assessment. Though I do like Deftones very much. Their discography has been consistently good throughout their 20yr+ history. Too bad their original bassist is unlikely to ever return to making music though :( 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
StevieWolfe Posted May 19, 2012 Deftones is debatable. They're way more talented technically speaking that a lot of bands in their genre. Linkin Park has stuck to the same formula for over a decade, and its so burnt out I can't even fathom how they are still a band. I guess Transformers will still make movies as long they still make music e_e Korn has gone down the toilet. Heavily. I don't even know what to say about them anymore, other than that the level of career failure is laughable at this point. There's a band called Flymore that instantly became a good "replacement" for all of the things that Korn decided to sacrifice so they could have "wub wubs" in their music lol. Personally, I've been listening to a lot of Corrosion of Conformity and Fireball Ministry. I guess you could stick them under Stoner/Heavy Metal...but I'm kinda bad with properly labeling genres. I'm eagerly awaiting the release of Fear Factory's new album though. The Amazon page for it has samples of some of the tracks up already, and holy CRAP, I like what I hear. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post

I heard a little bit of their latest album and you could barely describe it as rock music. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
