Andyman3k Posted August 23, 2012 Title explains it all. My friends tesla coil: http://www.youtube.com/watch?NR=1&v=dHeKe4kuHMI 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
kmxexii Posted August 23, 2012 Just like the floppy drive arrangement, it's eerie how fitting the unusual instruments are for the OPL playback I grew up with. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
Mechadon Posted August 24, 2012 Somehow this makes it sound even more badass than midi. Awesome! 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
Platinum Shell Posted August 24, 2012 Just gave me another reason why I love the classic Dooms. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
schwerpunk Posted August 24, 2012 That translates perfectly. Too cool. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
Mr. Freeze Posted August 24, 2012 It's supremely eerie how close that coil sounds to an actual synth. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
printz Posted August 24, 2012 Yeah, it's quite badass. But I have the impression that neither this is polyphonic. The second part of D_E1M1 plays the notes in chords. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
Aldaraia Posted August 25, 2012 That's astonishing, would love to hear more. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
Guest Posted August 26, 2012 And here was me playing the E1M1 music on unoriginal instruments like piano and guitar. I salute the uniqueness of this. Very, very cool. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
GreyGhost Posted August 26, 2012 Neat! I want one. printz said:But I have the impression that neither this is polyphonic. The second part of D_E1M1 plays the notes in chords. Think of the tesla coil as a loudspeaker with a frequency range that might be fairly restricted, then come up with a novel way of modulating it, which is what some users appear to have done. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
Jimmy Posted August 26, 2012 I love these things. There's one that plays the Super Mario Bros. theme. :D 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
baronofheck82 Posted August 27, 2012 Very interesting. I'm not a fan of the original Doom games' music, but this is pretty cool. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
hellothere231 Posted August 27, 2012 That sounds really close to the actual song! This is fucking badass. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
Maes Posted August 28, 2012 To everybody awing at "how close it sounds to the original"....well, he IS playing back the same instrument as the original, just through the Tesla coil, and with a one-voice arrangement. Why? Check it out: there are other videos of Tesla coils playing back arbitrary audio and music (even human voices), but with too many sounds mixing together they start looking too blurry. He could've played a complete arrangement with drums, basslines, double voices, etc. but then it wouldn't look so clear. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
hellothere231 Posted August 28, 2012 Oooh. So that's how it sounds so real. Thanks maes! :) 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
Snakes Posted August 31, 2012 That was pretty wicked. If anyone was ever vindicated by history, it was Tesla. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
NiTROACTiVE Posted September 1, 2012 I think I seen this before, but I thought it was fucking awesome when I first saw it. One problem I found was that the additional notes that were supposed to be played around 0:58 are missing but I think I know why because of how it probably can only play one set of notes at a same time. Still, I think this is really cool. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
